DD was about 9 months old. She still had like 1 or 2 pounds on the weight requirement to go for the infant seat - but we had a Looooong road trip ahead of us and we knew we'd have to get one eventually so we just went ahead and bought one.
We moved around 8 months. We bought the carseat at 6 mos, but didn't end up installing it until 8 mos. Turns out we could've waited almost half a year as he just now has passed up the height/weight requirements on his seat! His growing really slowed down when he started crawling.
We *still* use the infant seat. We already have our convertible (my mom bought it for us on sale) but it won't fit in the truck rear facing (our only vehicle) so we're sticking with the infant seat until we get another vehicle.
C is still in the infant seat as well! We bought our convertible seat on sale awhile ago but we just haven't moved him yet. We have the safe seat so it is good for 30 lbs and 32 inches tall. Also, it is so much easier when C falls asleep in the car to just carry the whole seat inside. I've tried to take him out but he always wakes up and doesn't go back to sleep - ugh! I know we'll have to move him eventually, but I'm in no rush.
Re: When did you move LO to convertible carseat?
We moved DS at ~5 months. He was so big and hated the infant seat.
We won't move DD for quite awhile. She still seems so tiny and she's very happy in the car.

We didn't move either of our boys until they hit the weight limit on the infant seat, which was well over the 1-year mark for both boys.
