Pumping and Pooping

One I can do, one I can't :-/

I'm very proud to report that I just pumped a full ounce of colostrum (.5 from each breast) in 15 minutes. The nurse was REALLY impressed so it must be good. :) Last time I pumped I got 9 CCs total, this time it was closer to 30 so rest and eating/drinking seem to have helped. Steve is feeding it to her now and I'm taking a break from trying to do the other item in my subject line. I've been actively trying to work towards #2 for the past 2 hours and I feel like I'm trying to start labor again. LOL. MY body is giving me a big WTF. it waaaants to come out but it can't.

I'm on Colace but due to my tear I can't push or strain at all for risk of ripping open.

Sooo... I'm walking again . haha.

Thank goodness for  being able to pump and having an awesome husband to go feed baby.

I was worried about her having  so many bottles but I know she'll get the breast soon enough and right now nourishment is more important than anything else. Plus it gets the nurses off of my case.

If she doesn't eat all of this, I'm hoping to use what's left plus what I pump at 11 (after trying the breast) for the 2:00 feeding so we can sleep. We'll see how it goes. Then again, 2:00 is when her 48 hour observation ends and I'd love to just take her right up to our room!

Still can't wait to get out of here but at least I've got one good thing going on in regards to feeding my child!

Oh and My Brest friend has NOT been my friend here in the hospital, but I'm hoping it will be better at home when she's not connected to any tubes/wires and the chair doesn't suck! I think my big belly is getting in the way as well. It won't go around me well and it falls into my lap. Hopefully it will work better at home, and I want our new furniture to come!

Re: Pumping and Pooping

  • OMG Morgan!!  I hope #2 comes soon.  I can totally sympathize with you

    Beware TMI to follow -

...I was in the bathroom at the hospital b/c I had to go so bad and it hurt so much.  (third degree tear/colace as well - which I don't think helped me at all!)  THEN I accidentally pulled on the emergency cord in the bathroom so the nurses rushed in and they were trying to make me open up the door so that they could make sure i was OK.  They wouldn't leave until I did.  It was horrible!!

  • Good luck on the #2!  As with everything else baby related with your body, when it's ready it will happen.

Sounds like your production is off to a good start.  I think rest is very important and I partly blame the lack of it to my low production.  Oh, and my brest friend never really worked out well for me.

Does it look like you'll be going home tomorrow?

Oh, Wendy! This sounds like something that totally would have happened to me!!! lol
  • Yay for productive pumping!!!!  Less than 5 more hours, & Quinn is all yours. It's almost over!  Good luck with the bathroom issues, everyone says that's the worst after having a baby, & I can only imagine how painful it is with your tear.
  • Wow, a full ounce of colostrum is a lot!  Way to go!

As for #2, I was scared.to.death to have that happen!  I don't think it actually did happen until 5 days or so after K was born.  It was rough.  And, just a little piece of advice, take the Colace about a week longer than you think you need to take it!

Can't wait to see more pics of Miss Quinn!

  • Oh boy, I was so scared to do #2 it was horrible....It did not happen until after I got home, I think the day after I came home it happened. I never thought I would feel normal down there again lol...and just a word of advice try not to push too hard..probably TMI but I have had a hemroid now for almost 2 months, that will not go away...I got it about 2 weeks after I got home, so do not force anything...I should have taken the colace longer :)
  • Oh honey.  I hope you get some relief soon.  What kind of vibes would that be?  Pooping vibes?!  Well, sending poo vibes your way!

And an ounce of colostrum, you're rocking it lady!

  • It's 2:30, I'm up pumping and Q is getting some pumped colostrum plus formula downstairs. Still haven't pooped.!! Getting painful to have it stuck. :( don't know if I can sleep before it happens! Wish me luck!

  • I'm glad that pumping is working for you!  Way to go!

As for the pooping part, I think everyone who has had a baby completely understands.  I had an episiotomy and I tore so I was all messed up!  I was so terrified that it just made it so much worse.  I don't think I went for like a week.  It was the most uncomfortable time.  Good luck!

  • Morgan, Have they already started you on the Sitz (sp.) baths in the hospital where you sit on this donut in the toilet and it helps to soothe and relax the area?  That is what helped me poop the first time around.
  • Sweet Relief! just had an enema, it was a bit scary coming out but it's out!

  • Good luck with getting your cycle back to normal.  When you get out of the hospital it might be worth trying the plumsmart juice I'm always raving about.  It's expensive ($4.50 a 48 oz bottle) but works well and tastes kind of like grape juice.  After reading everyone's posts I'm going to try to have it around for D day!

Make sure you keep your water intake up for both the breast feeding and #2.   Eat good foods (fruits & veggies) and hopefully it will take care of itself.  GL!

Congrats on the pumping!  You'll be home before you know it.
