sleep patterns at 2-3 wks

what was your experience?  DS wont sleep longer than 2 hours at a time and at night it sometimes is only an hour.  i'm just looking for some encouraging words on when it got a tad bit better?  and i tried swaddling - same result.  =(

Every 2 hours is perfectly normal.  And that time is from the start of one feeding to the start of the next.

My LO has been nice to me and has always slept fairly well at night (sleeping 2-3 hours at night) but she cluster feeds during the day and sometimes wont go longer than an hour between feedings.  That's the same for today... but she is sleeping longer stretches at night for the past week.  She is giving me between 4-6 hour stretches then a shorter stretch (2-3 hours) at night so I'm only having to get up twice.

Hang in there... it will get easier.

  • Newborns love to sleep but they wake themselves up so easily. Make sure you have a dark room, and they are TIGHTLY swaddled. No way he can kick out. Also, don't run to him every time he makes a noise. If you give him 2 or 3 minutes after the first sound, chances are good he'll put himself back to sleep if  he's still tired.

But yeah they do eat every 2-3-4 hours, but not every hour.

  • Every 2-3 hours for me sometimes I'll get lucky and she'll do a 4 hour stretch from 1-5am those are my favorite! It's normal and it will get better so just hang in there!
  • I'm in the same boat as you. DS mostly sleeps for 2 hours at a time.  The longest stretch has been 3-3.5 hours (during the day). After 4am, he is up pretty much hour until 7-8am. Swaddling doesn't make a difference for us either. He fights it and kicks out of it all night long. I'm hoping it gets better too!!!
