3 month old in a Bumbo

How long can/does your 3 m.o. sit in a Bumbo before they get irrevocably droopy? Do they have their head up & looking around or leaning on their shoulder or chest? (I'm trying to figure out if DS is ready for his yet)

Re: 3 month old in a Bumbo

  • I think when I first started putting DD in the bumbo she would only last about 10 min.

  • My LO will sit it in for about 15 minutes, then she starts getting wobbly.

This. But she's been in it since about 8 weeks. She's officially a sitter now, but she only lasts for a minute or so.

This is a test. This is only a test.
  • We started a week or so before 3 months and he didn't last long. At 3 months we did it for 5 min one day and bump it up every day. Now he sits in it for 30 min or longer with no problems. He loves it, but he's also very nosey and loves to see what going on around him.
  • She started using it daily at 4 months.  We put her in out while we eat dinner so she can be part of the family meal.  Sometimes she lasts the whole time and other times we move her to the playmat because she is tilting to one side.

This.  Before 4 months, we'd use it occasionally as part of our daily activities.  I'd put the tray on and give him toys on the tray so that he could work on his hand/eye coordination.  We now use it daily to feed DS his cereal.  It won't be much longer before he's too much of a chunk to fit in it, though!

  • At three months, even though Liam was able to keep his head up completely at tummy time (even to look at his mobile overhead) he would still slouch in the bumbo, and really disliked it.  After a week or so he would tolerate it for a minute or two, but still slouch.  Now he doesn't slouch, can tolerate it for maybe five minutes, but it seems to me he gets bored with it easily.  Poor kid wasn't to be mobile so badly, he scoots around his nursery floor constantly.

  • Thanks. It sounds like we had the general idea: start lite and move it up a but each day.
