Infertility

insurance makes me want to shoot myself

Do you think that's some kind of cost saving plan on their part?

They are INSANE!

Progesterone in Oil is covered.

They sent me progesterone in sesame oil, which I can't take because of allergy concerns.

So I ordered progesterone in ethyl oleate.

That is not covered.  Neither is progesterone in cottonseed oil or progesterone in olive oil.

For that matter, neither is progesterone in sesame oil.

it's covered, until you specify the type of oil.

Which seems to default to sesame.

Shoot me now.

  • I wont even start on insurance. Mine will pay for the most random things. They will pay for all testing for IF, but nothing beyond that. However, they will pay for lupron, and part of Follistim but only up to a certain amount? It never makes any sense!

  • I would call the insurance company and explain the allergy situation.  You will probably need a documentation by your RE but often how it works is that they have a formulary which must be filled first.  DH is on a medication that is not covered by his insurance but he appealed due to probems with the drug on the list and they now cover what he needs to take.

  • Ugh, I hate dealing with insurance.  Their guidelines are always so ridiculous.

Here we go again...IVF 3 is underway!
  • insurance is ridiculous...I don't think I'll ever understand how they work.
  • I did tell them about the allergy.  They don't care.

They did say I can file an appeal (with no guarantee of coverage or paying me back for what I have to buy out of pocket.)

It takes 2weeks to a month.

In my experience doing this several times in the past, they just reject the first appeal without reading it and you have to do a second appeal.

Which takes another 2 weeks to a month.

By the time they work through it all, I'll have paid it all.  ARGH!

  • Progesterone in ethyl oleate is covered by my insurance, but maybe that is because I didn't specify which oil Confused.

    It is so frustrating.

  • That's absurd. I'm so sorry you have to deal with that.
