Can I use a 12v battery pack on a 9v pump?

I'm finally going back to work the day after tomorrow.

I have two pumps (both Medela PIS) one is really old and I hate it and the other is newer. The crappy old one has a battery pack but the newer one doesn't. I put the battery pack from the old one onto the new one and it works, it just pumps really fast, I guess since the battery pack is 12v and the newer pump needs only 9v.

I really don't have the money to buy a 9v battery pack right now. Do you know if pumping fast is bad for me? Do you think this will ruin the pump?

Hm, I usually pump on the fastest speed on my pump. I don't know if there are any speed knobs on your pump, but if you're concerned about it going too fast, maybe you can adjust it slower with the 12v pack?

BUT the other issue is that I think there's a possible chance of the pump being ruined using a voltage greater than what it takes. Chances are that the manufacturer advertised the voltage higher than it really is, so maybe the 12v isn't really 12v anyway (a voltmeter could help determine what it really is). But without knowing the actual voltage, there is a risk (not a big one though). I don't know--I personally would go with a 9v pack because pumps are expensive and it's not worth the risk to me (maybe check Craigslist to see if you can get one for cheap?). Do you need the battery pack because you unable to plug the pump in at work?
