My bday is coming up (on the 22nd - Dani, we got a deal, right?) and Peter bought me my present early (for Greece)!!!
We went and got the Cannon EOS Rebel!!! AHH!! ANd with it, he bought me a case, a memory card, and a 75-300 lens (not that I have a clue as to what that means).
Sooooo.... I have no idea how to use this freakin thing, but I plan on figuring it out before I leave Thursday!
YAY!!!
PS - I am not going to try to be a real photog like you lovely ladies - Ashley, Morgan, Jaye, you're amazing. I promise I'm not trying to bite off you, I just know I can't deal with my red-eye point and shoot for another minute!
Re: Guess what IIIIIIII got!!!!
exciting!!!! congrats
is it the xsi? that's the one I got...with a 18-55? lens and a 55-250 lens....i have no idea what that means either. i'm taking classes every wednesday for the next 5 weeks (starting this week) on how to use a dslr camera.
Nice job, Peter!
Shooting in Auto for a while will be totally fine while you get used to it. I like to use Av mode the most, but like I said, auto will be fine for a while. Is it just the one lens or is there a smaller lens with it? Have fun with it! And if you have questions, just ask!
Wohoo! I've had my SLR for a year and a half and I still need to learn all the functions. 99% of the time I shoot in auto mode. It still turns out awesome pictures though!
I loooove not having to deal with red eye anymore!

Yay!! We just got a Rebel a couple weeks ago, & I've been trying to do some crash courses before the baby gets here. I found this on the photography board, & it's been really helpful:
https://sites.google.com/site/biowbiow002/twopeas_12week
It's basically 12 lessons & exercises to do with the camera to get familiar with the different settings.
I also read "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson, & it was very informative as well, but you don't have much time before you go!
Dani - thanks for the link - maybe I'll pick up something to read on the plane

So very excited for you! You are going to LOVE it!!!
All books by Scott Kelby on digital photography are very user-friendly and so quick to read.
I just made a new strap cover for my Rebel gal- she's my (second) baby!
