Amniotic vs. "other" fluid?

How can you tell the difference? I don't know if I am leaking fluid or other stuff (sorry...probably TMI) and i can't seem to find a clear answer online. Can anyone help explain how I could tell the difference?

    Smell it.  I'm sure you know what the "other" fluid smells like.  If it doesn't smell like that then it is probably amniotic fluid. 

     ETA:  But I think you should call the Dr because if it is just a constant leak it is probably amniotic fluid.  Good luck!

    I am with April, smell it.  Make sure it is clear and not any other color.  But I say call your doc because you shouldn't be leaking any fluids.  Keep me posted!!

    I agree with calling the dr.

    At a late stage the baby could be pushing against your bladder - and, if you are well hydrated it may not be telltale as urine. 

    The only way to know is to go to the dr- trust! This is commonplace for them.

    My L&D nurse said to smell it.  Apparently I am supposed to know what it smells like.

    I agree with the others I would likley call my doctor just to be on the safe side.

    Smell it but don't just smell it in your underwear. My first sniff of amniotic fluid smelled like dirty undies, lol. I held a washcloth to myself to catch it after that. :)
