It's been a little over a week since I had my son. We've been getting to know one another and have been really busy with company and family visits! So sorry this is so late...Better late then never right?
I went into the hospital to begin the induction process Thursday, June 24th, which was also my due date. They began the cervidil at 800pm. I was hooked up to a monitor to make sure the baby was okay. I began having contractions pretty much right away, but they weren't too bothersome. Around midnight they offered me ambien so I could try and sleep. At this time I was having irregular contractions anywhere from 3-5 minutes apart. I did sleep for about 2 hours but after that is was more difficult to get comfortable. Around 4 am they gave me Stadol for pain. It helped and I was able to get a little more rest.
Around 730 am the doctor came in to check on me and take out the Cervidil. I was about 3cm. I was told that she had office hours until noon and would come in to check on me before she had to go to surgery, which was scheduled at 1pm.
My morning nurse (who was AMAZING) started Pitocin at 8am. Contractions started to get more intense. At 9am I was 4cm dilated. I got up to use the bathroom and was shaking so badly and contractions were getting worse. My nurse asked me if I wanted to get my epidural. I did not hesitate when I said yes. The insertion of the epidural was a little uncomfortable as I was shaking so bad and still having pretty bad contractions. Once it was in I was able to relax and rest.
At 11 I was feeling pretty good. I asked to wash my face and brush my teeth. ( I did not want nasty morning breath when I was pushing!) About this time I was checked and they found I was 7cm. She turned me on my side, so I wouldn't get too sore just being on my back. My nurse also told me to let her know when I felt pressure in my rear. I had told DH maybe he should go get some lunch. Right then is when I did start feeling that pressure in my butt, maybe 10-15minutes after she had turned me. I called the nurse and she checked me out. I was fully dilated and my water still had not broke. She said she was going to call the doctor to break my water and then I would start to push! (Good thing DH did not go get lunch!)
So right before noon I started pushing. With the epidural it wasn't bad and everyone was cheering me on! There were times I was even joking between pushes. At 1241 Grayson was born! He was 7lbs 3oz and 19 inches long. They put him on my chest and I started crying. He was perfect! They had to take him and "pink" him up a little. But his apgars were great 8-9-9. When they handed him back to me he immediately started sucking his thumb!! ( I used to do that as a child) DH and I are so in love with him!!
Meet our little boy!
