Babies: 0 - 3 Months

New moms of 2-3 week olds

I wanted to check in and see how other moms of 2-3 week olds are doing?  Our son is 2 1/2 weeks old and I finally feel like I am starting to get used to this whole new life.  How is everyone else feeling?

Are you feeding on demand or on a schedule?  Do you try to put down your LO at a certain time of night?  How much sleep are you getting?  Would love to hear from you!

  • My daughter will be 3 weeks tomorrow.  We're feeding on demand, but if she hasn't eaten in 4 hours (VERY rare), I wake her up to feed her.  She generally sleeps immediately after eating except for first thing in the morning, one stretch in the afternoon, and early evening.  We start bedtime routine at 8:30 with a bath, and she was asleep by 9:30, but since we've switched to formula, she's staying awake after her bath until 10:00 or 11:00.  We're trying to figure out how to get her to sleep sooner.  She's nowhere near sleeping through the night.  Generally wakes up every 3-4 hours to eat, and NEVER sleeps past 6:30!  She's wide awake at 6:30 and wants to play after she eats.

  • I feel like we are settling in too.  Once Finn gained back above his birth weight, we've been stretching out feedings.  During the day, he eats every 2 1/2 -3 hours. At night, he can go 4-41/2.  I'm pumping and supplementing with formula, and that's working really well for us right now.  We're about to work on transitioning from the co-sleeper to the pnp.  We don't really have a bed time routine yet, but we usually all go to sleep around 10:30 or 11.

  • Our little guy will be 3 weeks tomorrow (scary!!) and he's doing great!  We feed him on demand every 2-3hrs, I'm nursing as well as pumping and bottle feeding.  It seems my milk supply has gone down since I started pumping a week ago, but my SIL told me a trick to pump right after you nurse and you'll trick your body into supplying more so I'm going to try that.

Myles gets up at 6/630am and we feed him and change him and go on a 4 mile walk everyday at 9am along the ocean.  By the time we get home it's lunch time so he eats again.  He usually sleeps through the day after our walk and I wake him up after 4 hours if he hasn't waken up on his own to feed him.  I just get nervous he'll get dehydrated in the heat.  We feed him through the night on demand, usually it's midnight, 230a, and then 630a.  I have had a few nights where he was doing some "cluster feeding" and wanted to eat almost every 45 minutes!  Yikes!  My LC said that babies do this every 2 weeks!  Oh boy!

  • I think we are finally starting to figure eachother out, plus he keeps getting cuter so I guess we will keep him lol! Seriously though, things are finally settling down and I think I am getting the hang of everything or atleast it has gotten a lot easier. I feed on demand and we aren't exactly on a schedule per say but we are getting there. He sleeps pretty good at night also! Lately he has been sleeping anywhere between 3-6hrs, which worried me at first but he eats SOOO much when he is awake and I can definitely tell he isn't losing weight so I don't bother waking him up if he sleeps a little extra!

  • DD is 3 weeks today! and we are starting to get a routine, feed every 2-3 hours during the day, last feeding at 12, she sleeps in her PNP then she sleeps till 4ish, feed, change, back in PNP. at 6 when DH leaves for work, she feeds again, DH changes her and she comes into bed with me.

today im starting a bedtime routine for her, trying to get her to sleep earlier than 12. bath, lotion+massage, and whatever else will help her sleep :D

  • Ayden is 3wks as of yesterday. We are adjusting to him being in our lives. My SO has to work a lot more since two of his co-workers were just terminated last week and so was my unemployment until the bill is approved (or I go back to work, whatever comes first), so I am doing a lot more on my own. This gets tough sometimes, just because I'm used to him being here more and I'm still finding that I get exhausted quickly. Still recovering from the C-section and don't feel too bad except for the exhaustion.

As for Ayden, he pretty much decides when he wants to eat. Anywhere between 3 1/2 to 4 hours or so. He can get more fussy overnight at times, but it's not too bad.
