Need recommendations on slings or wraps

Hello!!  My first time posting on these boards :D

I was just wondering what all you baby carrying mama's are using for your LO.  Right now I'm using a Babybjorn but I find it too bulky, I'd like to have something to just throw in the diaper bag.  My little guy tends to get fussy in the stroller but does fine when I'm carrying him around.  What are your recommendations?

Re: Need recommendations on slings or wraps

  • I love my moby but it does get a little warm. Possibly a mai-tie if you want to be able to throw it in the diaper bag. The Attachment Parenting board might have better suggestions on wraps and slings.

  • We love the moby.
  • I would just go with a ring sling.  it can roll up very small, a moby is quite a lot of fabric and mine is too hot to carry ds in now. We have a mai tai too but it does not fit in the bag either, a ring sling is my go to, and most come with a storage pouch that is really small and i toss it right in!

Love my Moby wrap!!! I've also heard really good things about Babyhawk and Ergo (maybe when LO is a little bigger?).

  • I love the Moby, but I wouldn't wear it outdoors in the summer - it's just way too hot.  The Ergo will be great once she is big enough not to need the infant insert.  DD hates her legs being off to one side (I have the older infant insert - they apparently have a new one that allows her legs to be on either side of you; I think it's called the "heart to heart" insert).  The mei tai is also good as well - like PPs said, it's easy to throw into a diaper bag.

  • Ditto PP about the Moby. I swear at least once a day I see Moms on here complaining that it's too hot. Can't we all band together and try to get them to make a cooler one? I am stuck because LO is still too small/lacks the head control for a Bjorn-type carrier, and the Moby is too hot. What the frick!
  • i used a maya wrap (also called a "ring sling") with my little guy for the first 3-4 weeks and i loved it.  you can wear it a lot of different ways and it works great when they still little.  i think it's a great option for throwing in the diaper bag and it worked well as a nursing cover when i was BF'ing.  my little man got big fast (24" and almost 15 lbs. now!) so i am looking for a good front carrier with straps on both shoulders to save my back :)

I have a Mai Tai, Moby and Bjorn.  The Moby is the most comfortable for me but a HUGE amount of fabric.  DD prefers the Bjorn (actually she doesn't perfer any of them - she'll tolerate the Bjorn outward facing the longest).  Mai Tai isn't working for us cause she doesn't like her legs spread apart (even though it's better for their joints that way).

See if you can bring your baby and try on a few at a baby speciality store.
