xp: Bf'ing and sippy cups

I was wondering if anyone bf'ing is also using sippy cups and at what age.  I bought 5 different cups and they are for 6+ months.  DS will be 6 months next week and he won't take a bottle from me, so I was thinking this might be an option.  Also, daycare is thinking that he needs to go up on the nipple flow, so I was wondering if instead of changing the nipples I could use sippy cups instead of the bottle there too.  Also, does anyone know which cups are particularly good to start with.  I have Nuby, Nuk, Gerber Graduates, Munchkin, and another I can't think of off the top of my head.  TIA!

  • Great!  I think I'll give it a try this weekend.
  • I just started sippy cups with DD and she rarely ever takes a bottle. she is figuring it out but gets kind of frustrated right now with it... I just let her keep trying and help her a little when she gets really mad :O
  • Had the same problem with both my boys boycotting the bottle.

I would recommend that you get a laytex nipple and try a playtex drop in.  It worked for both my boys after throwing tonz of $$ into trying all the bottles on the market.

As for sippies - I recommend the playtex ones with the handles attached to the lid.

Take the plastic stopper out and put water in the cup.  Gently tip cup so water flows into mouth.  Try a couple of times until he figures out that it's something to drink.  Once that association is made he'll suck by instinct.  As soon as you see him suck slam the plastic stopper back in and give it back to him.

My first son would not take BM or formula from a sippy.  My second will.

    GL to you!
