dry spell...

So.... I went of the pill (Yasmin) in March and I've only had one period since then, it was about 5 weeks after going off the pill. I'm now at 8 weeks without having one and I'm wondering... Is this normal? Should I see my doctor, or am I being a worry wart and just need to chill? Has anyone else been through this?

Thanks

Re: dry spell...

  • So you are on or off the pill? I'm confused.

  • Angelcakes, sounds like she is off.  Sarah...did you have your period while you were on Yasmin?  It is probably nothing to worry about but I would definitely get it checked out especially if you are trying to conceive.  Irregular periods could be a sign that something is off...

     Best of luck!

  • I am off the pill, and I was having regular periods while on it... Calling my CNM today.... loooove those visits! Tongue Tied lol
  • Hi there!

Just FYI, the "periods" while you're on the pill, aren't actually periods at all.  They are "withdrawal bleeding" and the only reason you have that, is because the birth control companies figured out that if women didn't bleed every 30 days, they would think they were pregnant.  So they built a few days of bleeding into every pack of pills.  It really has nothing to do with periods or fertility at all.  When I'm on the pill, I bleed like clockwork every 30 days.

When I first got off the pill, I would have 65-80 day cycles.  I did 3 cycles of Clomid after being off the pill for 9-10 months, and while on Clomid my cycles got down to ~45-50 days.  After Clomid my cycles were still about 45 days.  After 2 years of no birth control, I randomly got pregnant, with no drugs or Dr's appts...

It's called "annovulation" and might be caused by history of eating disorder, or if you are under or overweight, or by a million other things.  Talk to your OB and they will be able to help you.  How old are you?  Most dr's like to see 6-12 months off birth control before they will do fertility testing on you.

Also, have you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler?  It's a great book, you will learn a lot by reading it.  You can find it at Barnes and Noble.
