I've been trying to get DD to fall asleep in her crib and on her own. For a week or so I could put her down drowsy and it was fine. Then she went through 2 weeks of not sleeping well at all and I haven't been able to put her down since unless I hold her until she's out. How did you do this? When I did it the first time I think I just put her down and stayed by her crib until she fell asleep each day and gradually it got easier. WDYD?
Also, we used to let her sleep with a blanket over her. I would tuck the sides under her butt. We started that after we quit the swaddle. Now she's moving a lot and loves the blanket to be up by her face, like a lovey. I took the blanket away. She's ok without it. She woke up sideways in her crib the last few days and now I'm worried about the bumper. It isn't a breathable one. Should I be worried about this and take it off? She likes to kick a lot so I'm worried about her slamming into the sides. WDYT?

Re: Sleep/Crib questions
My DD doesn't go down drowsy. These days, she doesn't go to sleep at all (haha- see post above). There are a lot of techniques out there to get babies to fall asleep- the "no cry sleep solution" the "baby whisperer" and "cry it out", to name a few. you may just have to do what you are comfortable with and what works for your baby.
Can you get a sleep sack for her so she will be covered but not have the SIDS risk? I love Aiden and Anais sacks.
I try to switch it up a little bit each night with DD. Some nights she will fall asleep nursing and I can easily transfer her to the crib. Other nights, she's still wide awake when she finishes nursing, and I will just put her in her crib and see what happens. On nights like this it differs too - sometimes, she just lies there and falls asleep, most of the time though, it's five minutes or so of fussing, and then sleep. I will usually stay just outside her door, or downstairs directly next to the monitor until she falls asleep.
When we stopped swaddling DD, we just let her sleep in a long sleeve footed sleeper. So I can't help with the blanket question. We have a regular bumper in her crib and she has no problem with it. Right now, she's still small and she never gets close to the side of the crib. But I think that's a personal decision. It works for some and not for others.
