Josette

How would you pronounce this?

Josette (with the s sound) or Jozette with more of a z sound?

Just curious- hubby and I don't agree

TIA :)

Re: Josette

  • I did it with a Z sound.

  • Maybe it's just because I'm from Southern California and there is a large Spanish speaking population here, but that looks like a female version of Jose to me and would thus be pronounced ho-zette or jo-zette.

  • Z, but it could be either way, like in Cosette or Josie.

  • Josette w/ an S sound, then you could call her Josie (Jo-c)

  • doesn't really matter because half the people who see it will say it one way and half will say it the other, and it'll never be pronounced right by everyone
  • The name is French, and I know that the original French pronunciation would be with an s sound.

    Kinda like this:

     http://assets1.babynamer.com/babynamersounds/josette_f.mp3

However, Americans are more likely to pronounce it with a z sound.

  • Just reading it in my head, I pronounce it with an S sound.

My brain knows it's supposed to be an S sound.

But when I say it out loud, it just comes out w/ a Z sound.

Unless I'm really trying to say it right, then I say it with an S sound, but when I do this, it sounds like I'm OVERpronouncing it with a French accent, and it sounds silly.

  • I say it with an S sound.

  • I say it with more of an "s" sound.

I love this name!  I have a friend named Abigail Josette.

  • I know a Josette and she pronounces it Jo-set.

This is my name.  I pronounce it with the z sound, and go by Josie (Jo-z) for short.  Very few people I've met use the s sound for Josette, though it happens a lot for Josie.
  • With a "z" sound, my almost XSIL had this name.
  • S, but I also say Josie with an s, not a z... (Jo-see, not Jo-zee)
