What do you think of Briel?

I came across this name today while looking for more girl name possibilities.  I thought it was different but not too off the wall.  Opinions?

    made-up stripperish. Sorry, NMS

Lol, I kinda feel you there, it's funny because I actually came across it on a saints names website as a shortened version of Gabrielle.

  • That spelling looks made up. The name itself is French and derived from Gabrielle I believe, or Abrielle. I've only ever seen it spelled Brielle.

I am not really a fan though.

  • stangely, the spelling "Brielle" softens it for a me a bit...

  • The spelling Brielle looks much better!  I always liked Gabrielle but we have a long last name so anything 3 or more syllables is out unfortunately.

  • not bad...just reminds me of the cheese Bri - which would most likely be her nickname.

It's not my style but I think it could work =)

  • I think of it as more of a nn for Gabrielle. It's nms, but I've heard much worse names.
  • I absolutely despise this name although I'm not entirely sure why.  Just my two cents.

  • Thanks for your opinions ladies!  I'm not really sold on it because I'm usually into traditional or biblical names.  I think I'll put it on the list though.

This... although my hatred is more towards Brielle. It just looks like Braille to me.

    This Yes

  • Spell it Brielle and you have a winner :) It's not something I would ever name my child, but I wouldn't think bad of anyone who used the name.
  • I think Brielle is very pretty.  The "Briel" spelling confuses, me, though, it looks like it might be pronounced Bree-ul, as opposed to Bree-elle.

  • I would name her Gabrielle and call her Briel/Brielle.

I know a woman who always loved the nickname Bree, so she named her daughter Gabrielle specifically so they could use that nickname (rather than Gabby, or naming her Brianna, which they didn't like as much).

We must live close to one another b/c that is EXACTLY why it was crossed off our list!

  • I love it. I helped my sister pick it out for my 8 yo neice, Brielle.

My sister Danielle, used all "elle"  endings for her 4 daughters names.

     This.

  • I don't like it much - I'm not a fan of all the Bri names anyway (massive amounts in my area), but Briel looks like you're trying to feminize cheese. I've seen Brielle which visually works better for me, but I still can't get behind this name.

Oh, but Gabrielle is awesome - go figure.

  • I'm late to this post, but I was lurking and came across it.  I have a male cat names Gabriel (like the Saint....... I've not seen the saint's name spelled Gabrielle.  That to me is a girl's name, like Gabby.)  I call my cat Briel and I absolutely adore it.  lol.  I know, I know, not the same as a baby, but still.  I love it.

  • I'm guessing you are going for Brielle.  I would pronounce Briel like BRY ell and not like bree ell.
