New to The Bump

new to the bump....just wondering...

Hi, I'm new to the bump and I have only made one post to one of the boards and while I have had some good advice I have also had some pretty rude and less than helpful comments.  Is this normal? Are the people on here this suspicious of everyone?

  • Snark is going to happen on every board.  How much you get, if any, simply depends on the question itself.

  • I read your post on BOTB, and while that board is made up of awesome ladies you might want to consider lurking before you delve right into posting to get a better feel of the board. Unfortunately there have been a lot of weirdos running around as of lot as well as plenty of people with alternate login names to stir up trouble, so you might have just had bad timing.

I would also recommend taking advantage of the board list to the left. Try "Blended Families" or "TTC" or even the "Married Life" board on The Nest. Good luck!

  • Like PP said snarky is almost a way of life on some of these boards.  Lurking around the board you would like to post on in order to learn the girls on there and what they like and don't like will help.

Try checking out TTC.  Just remember that most woman on here don't get PG very easily which is why they are here and looking for help.  This in and of itself is a stressful.

Plus a lot of woman on here tell it like it is without holding back becasue that doesn't help anyone.

  • I have encountered some of this as well and I think it has to do with the fact that essentially you are anonymous. Many more people feel that being anonymous gives them the right to say whatever comes out regardless of how rude it may be. With that being said, try not to be too discouraged...usually I ignore the snarky comments and look for the advice/opinions I am seeking. Remember these women know nothing more about you and your situation than you share in your posts.

  • Thank you ladies very much! Your comments have helped a great deal, I will definitely heed your advice and "lurk" before I leap.Big Smile I appreciate you all taking the time to read and comment.  Good luck to all of you as I see that you are having the same issues that I am having.

I mainly post on the September 2010 board because of this! I have never had a rude post or comment made. So dont worry it doesnt happen on EVERY board, You just have to find the right one. :) good luck with everythiing!! :)

It seems to be a common occurence among The Bump "regulars." Unfortunately, some women apparently think that "snark" (which, imo, is an overused, albeit passe concept) is something tantamount to intelligence or imagined superiority, when really it simply (literally) means that they're rude.

    Oh well...to each her own...

On the other hand, there seem to be many women who are here to be informative and supportive. In my short time here (lurking and posting), I've had a pretty easy time determining which "regulars" are obnoxious and "snarky", and which ones are more willing to answer questions honestly, sans unnecessary attitude.

Hopefully, we'll encounter more of the second type, less of the first. In the meantime, ignoring the cattiness is a good course of action.  Wink

    Good luck!
