My husband and I started trying this cycle (Or as he calls it "Not, not trying"). I saw the OB/GYN a couple days after and he's pretty sure I ovulated. I've been ovulating pretty regularly except for a cyst in April.
We haven't told a sole we are trying, but we have a wedding next weekend. Saturday would be CD28. I'm going to test that morning. How reliable will those results be?
Even if it's negative I don't think I'll be reassured enough to have a drink. Any hints on how to avoid the questions about why I'm not sipping champagne?? I already laid the groundwork by offering to be the DD for the Rehearsal Dinner, but the whole bridal party is staying at the hotel where the reception is so I don't have an excuse there!
My in-laws will be there, all my college friends and I used to be the first to saddle up to the bar. I have no problem giving up the drinking, I don't even feel like a sip, but that will be suspicious to my friends!

Re: How soon is too soon to test?
It depends *when* you ovulated. 14dpo (days past ovulation) is an acceptable time to test.

When a test could be the "final answer" would depend on when in your cycle you ovulated. Here's the chart:

As for what to tell people, I usually say I'm on an antibiotic or some kind of medication where alcohol isn't allowed.
Either way, if you get a negative test that day, it's safe to drink, even if a few days later you get a positive.
I'll be 14DPO on the 28th.
If I get a negative a glass of wine would be ok then because it should be a reliable result, and I might want one
If I (cross your fingers) get a positive... any hints for hiding the lack of drinking? I'm paranoid people are going to ask.
We had two non-drinkers at our wedding and I sooo knew right away, they both just gave birth this month to the cutest little girls. If I as the bride noticed I can only assume by friends in the bridal party will find things shady!
there was a great conversation about this on the 1st tri board where the ladies are pregnant - lurk/post over there for this answer and if you get a BFP. GL

I really don't think it's "shady" if someone doesn't drink. The person could be on a medication that he or she can't have alcohol on. The person could also be fighting off a cold and he or she might not want to compromise his or her immune system.
If someone asks, just say you aren't feeling it.
Good luck.
Reasons for not drinking are plenty ....
Medication
Headache
Hungover from last night
Designated Driver
Feeling sick
Recovering from illness
Dieting - rather splurge on food than drink

Just order virgin drinks all night, that way it looks like you are still drinking. GL
You know this how? Do you have a link to your chart you can share?
I pph you! You are so sweet!
But seriously, OP, you said your doctor "is pretty sure" you ovulated, which means that you don't know for sure when you will be 14dpo.
With that said, go ahead and take a HPT when you figure you are 'late' (if your period doesn't come), then take a test once a week until you get a + or AF comes. IF you happened to get to CD60 with no period and no +HPT, call your doctor.
Good luck.
Thanks ladies. I haven't been charting online, so I don't have a link. I've been charting using the workbook that goes with What To Expect Before You Are Expecting. There are days I just don't turn the computer on so it's easier to chart in the am before I get ready for work.
Happy 4th of July!
This. Just carry around a drink with you, let your DH take some of it every once in a while to make it look like you are drinking it. GL keep us posted!
With most of the pregnancy tests out there, CD 28 would typically give you a fairly true result. You do have several options. 1) if you are not sipping champage, you could just say Youre just not drinking, or that you don't care for champagne. 2) If you feel that might be looked upon oddly, you could tell the truth - "I might be pregnant and don't want to take a chance." Or you have option 3) - I know this is not a popular thing to say, but, honestly, a few sips of champagne during week 4 of a pregnancy, before you have even tested positive on a pregnancy test is NOT going to hurt a developing embryo. I am assuming you're not going to get yourself knock-down drunk. Many, many women have had champage, wine and other alcohol in the weeks following conception before missing a period. Many other women had a glass of wine here or there throughout their pregnancies and still gave birth to normal, healthy babies. I wouldn't advocate that either, but, a few sips of champagne that early in pregnancy is not going to cause problems to a developing embryo - even in the professional opinion of most doctors.
This is only the case if you have regular, "normal" cycles. If you have a bit of a longer cycle or don't ovulate until later in your cycle, this is not going to be the case. Hence, it's important to know *when* you ovulate, which is why the ladies in this post kept asking.
I'm assuming you mean CD28 assuming that's 14 dpo. If that's what you're saying, that's potentially true. If not, just look at my ticker, I'm on CD25 and still waiting for confirmation if I actually O'ed - so a HPT test on CD28 would be 100% useless for me.
As for drinking, I've really never been much of a drinker, so I'm not much help with suggestions there. If someone asks me, I just tell them I don't want to and they leave me alone. I really don't understand why people spend so much energy caring about what other people are drinking. I'm sorry that issue stresses people out so much while TTC or KU.
