TTC After a Loss

What the heck to serve for "chinese dessert"??

So there's a group of couples that get together once a month for dinner. Each month is a different theme. July is "Chinese Food"... I know. We couldn't do patriotic or all-American or something?

Anyway - I'm assigned dessert. Beyond bringing a bucket of fortune cookies I'm rather lost. I'd like it to at least be semi-Chinese-ish but don't trust my culinary skill to create those crazy gelatin things.

I'm not opposed to bringing two things - like a fruit something and something a little heavier... need ideas.

  • Here's a webpage I found:

    https://www.ifood.tv/network/easy_chinese_dessert/recipes

It might be difficult to make, and I don't think it's in this webpage, but my favorite chinese dessert is coconut icecream!  Mmmmm... nom nom nom

  • How about chinese noodle cookies?  They are super easy and taste yummy.  I make them every Christmas.

  • How about green tea iced cream from the store, or coconut milk iced cream, or almond cookies. I don't have any in my blog, or some kind of ginger dessert?  HTH

  • oh wait, I just thought of this, and this might be too much but in a recent food network mag they made 'sushi' out of candy.  As in it looks like sushi, but it's made of candy :)

  • I just googled "easy Chinese dessert receipes" and while they may be easy they do not sound tasty.

This is the only one that looked good to me, Almond Cookies.  There were too many desserts that had rice in them, and that just doesn't sound too dessert-y to me.

  • Chinese desserts (from my experience) are best left to the experts. Do you have an asian part of town? If so there are probably some bakeries in the area that you can pick something up at.

My fav are those red bean paste rolls. It's a like a donut, but with sweet red bean paste in the center. Holy moly, those are tasty.
