C-section questions...

I always thought I would have a vaginal birth since the babies are head down, but since they decided to move into the same sac, I am being treated as a mono-mono twin pregnancy and having a C-section.  What activity restrictions did you have?  For how long?  Weight restrictions?  Driving? Is there anything I am not thinking about?  I just want to be prepared.

TIA!

Re: C-section questions...

  • I was told to lift nothing heavier than the baby, no driving until my 10 day check up, and just be all around careful. Other than that, I don't remember anything else

  • I actually wasn't given any specific restrictions except the standard "no sex until 6 weeks" rule. I was told to be careful not to overexert myself, and basically just to use common sense (if it's heavy or it strains you then don't lift it, that kind of thing).
  • When I had my c-section with DS, I was told not to lift anything heavier than baby (roughly 10 pounds), not to drive for 2 weeks (or more if I was sore), and to really listen to my body for discomfort/pain and cut back or increase activity as I felt like it.  I was pretty sore for a week or two to be really honest, but I also had a 26 hour labor before the c-section that my doctor said attributed to my being so worn out and slower recovery.  I felt I recovered pretty quickly.  By 10 days I was able to go out with my sister's help (she did all the lifting and driving) and was only sore at night.
  • I was also told to avoid stairs for the first two weeks if possible.  I live in a ranch and just didn't see my basement for a while.
  • No driving for 2 weeks, no sex for 6.  Lifting limit was 10 lbs, although I was less stringent with that one since carying my twins at the same time was at least 12.  Those were the only specifics.

No driving for at least 2 weeks or until I was able to push the pedals without pain.  And limit the stairs.  I hung out on my first floor for awhile.

Honestly, I had a pretty easy recovery.  I think it helped that the girls were in the NICU for 2 weeks so I was able to recover without worrying about lifting babies.

  • What activity restrictions did you have?    No exercise for six weeks, can't p/u babies in their carriers for several weeks, no driving for two weeks.  I'm probably forgetting something.....

    For how long?  See above

Weight restrictions?  I believe it's ten pounds for six weeks.  You can only pick babies up really.  With Emerson I put the carrier in the car and carried Emerson back and forth if I wanted to go for a drive or something.  It's hard the first couple of weeks with the restrictions they put on you.

Driving? I cheated after a week a did drive but, didn't take Emerson with me.  I had to get out of the house for my sanity.

Is there anything I am not thinking about?  You've thought about the biggies, I think.

  • my Ob told me to :

-not drive for 2 weeks unless i really needed to, and only if i was not on pain meds(i didn't drive for 4 weeks b/c dh was home with me for that time - so i never needed to)

-not lift anything heavier than babies until 6w checkup and given OK.

-stairs were fine - take it easy... i had to do stairs- only one bathroom is upstairs in my house - i had absolutly no problem with stairs. I had to remind myself to go slowly - b/c i felt fine and would go too fast.

  • No lifting anything about 20 lbs., no driving unless I was not on pain meds, and no sex for 6 weeks.  I was basically on bed rest before giving birth so I was so excited to be able to move that I moved more after I had them than I had in many months prior.  The pain wasn't too bad at least for me.
