Question about cramping/spotting

I'm around 9 weeks now and have had cramping off and on which I know is completely normal.

Last night, it was pretty bad, so I took a couple of tylenol and went to bed.  Today I woke up to bleeding (brownish/reddish) and pretty bad cramping in my front and my back.  No more m/s (I know I shouldn't really read into this part).

I went in for an u/s this morning and the babies were fine, no subchrionic hematoma, my cervix wasn't funneling, nothing wrong.  But of course the midwife had to add into the fact that in a couple of days, it could be different.

My question is did you have cramping this bad (a little worse than period cramps) and bleeding starting at around 9 weeks?  If so, did they give you a reason for it?  Someone on SAIF brought up a good point that your uterus is trying to keep up with the babies' growth and so that would account for the cramping and the bleeding.

Just looking for some experiences, thanks girls:)

Re: Question about cramping/spotting

  • Didn't exactly have cramping, however at 10wks I caught swine flu and was hospitalized, I woke up one morning to bright red period type blood ( I actually needed the nurse to bring me a big pad) and totally freaked.  dr gave no explanation, but it stopped the next day and all was fine.  and I had spotting on and off for those first 10 wks.  Hope that helps...

  • Glad to hear all is well. Cramping and spotting is very common with multiples. As a fellow triplet mom said to me (when I had spotting at 8ish weeks) - your uterus is cranky right now. Lots going on in there.

  • I didn't have any spotting, but the cramping was bad enough that I was convinced we didn't have a viable pregnancy and something was wrong.  Uterus was just doing a lot of growing and everything turned out okay... hope that's the same for you!

I had bleeding at 7 weeks and cramping on and off the whole time (still do). My RE said spotting is VERY common with IVFers, especially with multiples. I know it sucks b/c it's hard not to freak out. I'm glad nothing is changing with your cervix. That's great news. : )
  • I had spotting around 10 weeks that lasted a day or so.  No cramping.  They said it was left over implantaion bleeding.  Dr said that implantation is pretty dramatic in a multiples pregnancy.

  • I had spotting twice - once for a couple days at 14 week, and once just for a hour or so later on (25weeks?). I know it's hard not to freak out, but as pps said, it's relatively common with multiples.
