I am having someone make Aiden's birthday cake. I have googled and found some cakes- but nothing I love. Any suggestions for a pirate themed cake? (I have seen cakes in the shape of treasure chests and ships....and cakes decorated with pirate things.) Anyone have any great pics of pirate cakes? THANKS!!

Re: ideas for pirate birthday cake?
Here is a blog with pirate parties, it just has cupcakes, but maybe I will help with giving you some more ideas.

Okay, this is not a GREAT cake at all, but it was easy to make and a hit with the kids that I made it for. It would have been better if I had a bit more time, but I was in a rush. Here are the pics:
I did 1 cake mix in 2 circular pans, and 1 in 2 square pans. I iced between the 2 circle cakes and put them together, and then cut a section out so that they made the boat shape. I also cut the bottom part off so it was flat bottomed. I used wooden shish kabob skewers in the bottom and slid the boat part on top. I also ended up icing the whole board blue. You can see in the second pic that the front started cracking a bit - I would definitely recommend making the cakes the day before you need to, and putting them in the fridge. I waited a few hours between baking and icing, but it would have been better if they were cold. The freezer would do, too, I think. I also forgot to bring the sail that I made with me, so I had to improvise and draw one on a napkin! LOL - the kids didn't really care too much though. So, even though mine didn't turn out all that great, the idea of how to do it is there...
Good luck!
Thanks! I actually just found a cake that is cute---at Publix. Still would like to have someone make one instead of getting it at the store.
