I really need your help.
We leave for our cruise in 23 days. And I'm really disgusted by where I am weight wise. I gained some weight during our family reunion last week and I just feel gross...and I don't want to go on our cruise feeling like this. I feel like I can reasonably drop 5-10 pounds in the next 3 weeks, but I've got to stop doing crap like I did today...eating a bunch of Goldfish crackers during Will's nap and then pigging out on McDonald's this evening because I was too lazy to cook.
So two questions:
1 - What "program" are you on that's working for you? Weight Watchers/counting calories works for me for a week, but then I sabotage myself. Exercise isn't the issue - I run about 35 miles a week and lift weights 3 times a week.
2 - How do you stop the self sabotaging? I know I want to lose weight. I've known that for months. But I'm stuck where I am...and in the moment, it's so easy to think, "I don't care." In reality I do. WTF is wrong with me?!
Any advice you can give? I feel like I need a shrink or something to figure out why I'm so stubborn when it comes to losing weight!
Re: Weight Loss Ladies - I need your help
I don't have any advice, but I'm exactly like you. I need to lose 30 pounds, bad. My health is becoming an issue because I've always had blood pressure issues. I feel for ya though. I'm doing weight watchers, but I love sweets and I hate working out. So I'm very slowly losing nothing/staying the same
I am right there with you. I leave in 23 days for the beach and I really need to lose 10 pounds. I've been doing this diet. I lost almost 20 pounds when I did it several months ago, but then I gained 10 pounds back, so I'm trying to lose those now. It's not a typical diet, but it works really well for me because I only have to be disciplined for 24 hours. I can wait until the next morning and eat whatever I'd like for breakfast and it helps me get through the diet days. I only do low days on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, because of my schedule.
Do you want to do a buddy check-in or something? I am a stress eater and under a lot of stress right now, so I could sure use the accountability.
I put on a lot of weight after college. I wanted to lose it to go home (Buffalo) for Christmas one year. Pretty difficult considering I was starting just before Thanksgiving. And I didn't know I was allergic to wheat yet!
I kept a picture in my wallet of myself. I was wearing an awesome dress and really looked skinny/good in it. Whenever I'd want to cheat, especially drive through, I'd pull out the picture first to focus on how I really wanted to look that way again.
And if you've been wanting to eliminate allergens, there's nothing like a 3 week challenge diet to shredd pounds. =P And you'll feel great because any tiny allergens that may be making you sick or bloated will be gone!
The only diet that has ever helped me control cravings was the South Beach Diet and more specifically, the first week of the SBD when your diet is really restricted. It sucks for a few days, but after that the cravings really are gone and I found I didn't want crackers or candy or junk food.
Um, ok. I posted that and yeah, that's not my screenname. weird nest.
It's really hard to get and stay motivated. I don't know what it was, but something in me finally clicked in January and I knew I could, and would, do this. I said I wanted to lose weight for months and months before I actually did something about it..and I did want to, just not bad enough, because I wasn't doing what I knew I had to do.
What works for me is planning everything out. I know what I'm going to eat for every meal and snack, I measure everything, I know what I can eat when we go out somewhere, etc. It's really hard to make good food decisions when you're starving so I make sure to eat something every 3 hours or so.
GL. I know you can do this!
The Blog
The diet I used to loose weight on before I got pg was the flat belly diet. I thought it worked great despite everything that happened in that same time frame (found out I was allergic to gluten and slacked on my exercising). Here is a link to the book I used. I could meet up with you to drop off my copy to you though. I'm actually planning on going to Georgetown later today.

I started using Weight Watchers online at the beginning of the year. TODAY I met my goal weight...it took 6 months but I dropped 17lbs and I don't feel deprived at all.
My advice is to stick with the WW during the week. Maybe reduce your points very slightly so that you can pretty much take weekends off. That's more of a long term solution. Also, can you make it to any WW meetings? Maybe the extra encouragement will help you feel better.
In the short term, I think it's really critical to turn off the negative voice in your mind. (I'm sure some people will scoff at this). Chances are you are the one telling yourself bad things about your body. The sooner you can turn that voice off or reprogram it to tell yourself good things, the sooner you will feel better...regardless of the weight loss. Start now. Look in the mirror every day and tell yourself something positive. I SWEAR this makes a much bigger difference in your life than the pounds. Self esteem is all in your mind, not your hips.
This exactly. It sounds like your body is "used" to the running, so you need to change it up and intervals is the way to go!
Also, go to the grocery store ASAP! At least for the next 23 days, you need to have a house full of healthy, EASY food. Not food that you have to cook - healthy stuff you can just grab and eat so you can skip the McD's.
Thank you guys for all the help and words of encouragement...I love this board!
Emer, I'd love to be your weight-loss buddy and keep each other accountable!
My email is libbyann at gmail if you want to email me and we can work out the details.
That up day down day diet is really intriguing...I might try something like that until we leave for the cruise and then go back to counting calories/weight watchers type thing.
Something that is hugely helpful to me for healthy snacking is to make sure I have easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables. We bought a lot of higher quality food storage containers with silicone-sealing lids (ours are Snapware - you can get them from BBB with a coupon!) to store snacks. These will keep even apples from browning much better than the cheapie tupperware I used to use. When I get home from the grocery store, I wash and cut up fruits and veggies and store them in these. I know you probably can't avoid having some carb-y snacks for Will, but one thing that helps me is to hide them where I can't see them (not in the pantry).
Good luck! I think it's awesome that you are able to run so much. That is a huge hurdle (exercise, I mean) for so many of us. We are all our own worst enemies. You are beautiful!
