~~Zero Sperm/Azoospermia Check In~~

~~ZERO SPERM / AZOOSPERMIA CHECK IN~~This is a place for any of you who are experiencing the world of azoospermia.  Whether you were recently diagnosed and are trying to make sense of it all, or you have started preparing for IVF or IUI, or have decided instead to move on to adoption.  Please join in the group by posting! Check in is on Thursdays. Learning that the chances of having a biological child with your husband are slim to none is not easy, and is, frankly, devastating news.  This check in is a place where we can share how we are coping (or not) with our new realities, provide information we've learned through investigating our options, adjusting our lifelong dreams and plans, and dealing with the situation.   I'd like to extend an invitation to those who have been fortunate enough to experience pregnancy, childbirth, and/or adoption.  Ultimately, all of us desire to create a family.  The experiences and insight of those who have reached that goal will be quite helpful to those of us on that road.  AZOO SUCCESS STORIES! (Whether through IUI/IVF or Adoption)

Re: ~~Zero Sperm/Azoospermia Check In~~

  • Hey Folks!  We're having awesome weather the past couple days here in the NE.  No humidity, and got to turn of the ac.  Love it!

    Questions of the Week:

Do you have any plans for the 4th of July weekend?   No plans here, other than making sure the dog is drugged enough so she doesn't totally freak w/the fire works.

  • Loading the player...
  • Good Evening Ladies!  Nothing new here!

QOTW:  No :(  We have absolutely nothing planned. Not sure if we will end up doing something or not.

I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday weekend!

TTC #1 since Dec. 2008 01/10 - DH diagnosed with Azoospermia 05/10 - First Biopsy - producing sperm :) 08/11 - Second Biopsy..4 vials frozen 08/12 - First IVF BFN & no more vials :( Don't know our next plan...
  • We've had some lovely weather too and I am loving the low humidity! We met a social worker on Sunday and she was sweet as can be. We have a lot to think about and get ready but I think we are going to pursue this! Regardless, we are still planning on IVF next year.

QOTW: I am going to a BBQ at a friend's house, H is working so I probably won't stay late.

    TTC since April 2008

Me: PCOS/Amenorrhea DH: Azoospermia due to Y Chromosome Micro Deletion IVF w/ ICSI on hold until further notice

    Hope

DH had his biopsy on Monday, no sperm was found. Sad  However, the doctor felt confident drug therapy may be able to produce enough for mTESE and I would get prepped for IVF.  We have our follow up on Thursday.  I can't wait to ask questions and figure out what our best option is.  I just don't know what to think, DH and I have a lot to talk about and we need to decide what our next steps will be.   I wonder what the chances are, and we will be completely oop for all treatments and surgery.  I can't help but think if it doesn't work, then we have spent all the money and still have no baby and not be able to afford other options.  I feel really numb.

Anyone know of any good sites for NOA, or did this work for anyone?

    Question of the week:

We have an annual BBQ every year, this will be the 3rd year.  We just do burgers and hotdogs.  I usually make homemade ice cream and we shoot off cheap fireworks.  Our husbands are pyromaniacs!

  • Kyna I am so sorry.  Have you and your DH considered doing donor IUIs?  It would be a cheaper option and probably allow you more tries.  I know using a donor is a big step but I just thought I would through that out there.

Update:  I have already posted this cycle was a BFN.

QOTW:  We are heading up to Lake Tahoe to my family's vacation house for the weekend.  My whole family will be there so it should be fun.  On the 4th we will watch the fireworks show on the lake.

  • Hello Ladies!

Kyna81 - So sorry sweets. ((hugs))

Update on us: Nothing too crazy. We are looking through donors and getting all of our questions answered by the doctors and insurance as far as cost and what to expect, etc. As far as I can tell I have not ovulated yet this cycle and I should have. I expected to be a delayed o this month due to the stress of dh's surgery and the job interview process going on. Who knows, maybe I will be starting this iui this cycle??

QOTW: We have a pretty big party in my family on the 3rd. In my town they do the larger fireworks on the 3rd and smaller displays on the 2nd and 4th. Tomorrow we are going to my friends house to watch the fireworks in her town and on the 4th we will go to my inlaws for a cookout. The 4th of July is my favorite holiday!!! :)

Extended version in my blog, but:

  • kyna81- So sorry, have you talked to your insurance company to see if they cover any type of infertility? GL with your tough decision nothing is easy about any of it!

Update: Still waiting for AF to show up tomorrow will be 5 weeks since my D&C so hoping she shows soon so I can start my bcp for IVF 2.

QOW: We are moving my aunt and uncle in to their new house and then on sunday we are going to a friends cookout (now that I know her family knows she's preg.) I was afraid that was going to be the time they'd announce it and knew I couldn't handle that!

QOTW: We're heading a few hours away to spend the weekend with my ILs.  They have a travel trailer so it will be close quarters (luckily it's big for a trailer). I imagine we'll be taking the pup for quite a few walks :P

  • Hi, this is my first time seeing this "check-in". How does it work? I saw there was a list of peoples Dx and plan but how do you get yours up there? Also, what is QOTW??

  • Hi crachsi, I would like to be added to the check in. We started TTC 8/09 but just started testing in 6/10.  DH just had his second SA last week and it still showed no sperm.  He is scheduled for bloodwork in the next week.  After that we meet with the RE for results.

QOTW: We are visiting my family this weekend.  DH and I like to camp and my parents are giving us their pop-up camper.  I am so happy, tent camping gets old fast.  I love the fourth but I don't get to see any fireworks because I have a huge assignment for grad school due on the 4th.  (my prof. is not native to the U.S. so this day doesn't mean anything to him) :(

  • Sorry to hear that Kyna.  I think Yellow Daisy has a point and not sure what your thoughts are on DS.

Yolanbo: you can do a quick a intro of yourself on this post and Craschi will add you onto the list.

Update: We got our first BFP ever on saturday's beta and the numbers have more than doubled for monday and wed's beta.  We are cautiously excited as the bleeding has subsided but then it started again last night.  Next stop is the ultrasound scheduled in 10 days when we're 6 weeks and 5 days.

QOTW (question of the week): we don't get a long weekend for the 4th here but I got baby shower that day.  The interesting thing is that the mommy-to-be is actually due next week -- talk about cutting it close!

    Have a great long weekend!

Kyna- I am so sorry to hear about the biopsy.  What kind of drug therapy would YH go through?  I am still new to this so I am trying to gather as much info as possible.

Also- how is YH doing?  Is he ok?  This is probably really hard on him too.

To answer a few questions, according to our Dr. testing is covered but mTESE and IVF is not, not even IUIs. I'm not sure about meds yet either.  He was able to code the biopsy so it was covered.  From what he said, mTESE would be about 7K and IVF would be about 6K.

I've researched a little about DS, but I don't think DH is ready to give up hope yet.  I think I would only be willing to give the mTESE and IVF a chance if we used DS as back up.  We have our follow up on Thursday, so we will sit down with our Dr. to discuss everything and all of our options.

  • Nothing new here.

Question of the week: No plans for 4th of July. I work Saturday. I hope to rest up over the holiday as I am exhausted from this week.

After 2 years of TTC, our daughter was born on Oct 31, 2011!
