Baby Sign Language

Could someone recommend books, articles and/or websites related to baby signing? DS is too young to use it now, but DH and I are interested in possibly doing it in the future. We are beginning to do some research on it and any suggestions would be much appreciated. TIA!

"smart hands" app is great! there is a free version (lite) and a pay version.

I don't have links (I'm on my phone not the computer), but I just googled ASL (American sign language) dictionary. Several good ones came up.

I love baby signing time videos. Looking in a book to learn wasnt working for me. I needed to see it being done.

I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but DD's signing didn't really take off at all until I bought her some dvd's. Shortly after she started watching the dvd's it "clicked" and she started using the few signs I had been doing with her.

We have both the My Baby Can Talk series and the Baby Signing Time series. I prefer Baby Signing Time, but right now she is back to liking My Baby Can Talk more. ha ha!

They have demos of the signs. Plus it's free. I sign to DS, not that consistently, but I hope he signs back soon!

I personally would go straight to the actual sign language- he'll develope his own signs anyway that you don't have to worry about the baby signing stuff. Here's a link to an online ASL dictionary

There's a link on that website to a site where you can get online courses that are excellent. Just FYI he might pick it up a bit later but once he starts signing he'll take off with it. My son took a while to "get it" but then when he did he learned the sign for every word that he could say.

I use Baby Einstein My first signs and I learned from that. As well as books at the the lib HTH!

I bought the book, The Baby Signing Book - Sara Bingham. I have also watched a few videos on youtube to see exactly how the signs are done. Both pretty helpful.

Both pretty helpful as I plan to start signing to LO in about a month or so. I think everything is so new to him that it would just be too much in the first month of life. GL

I checked out some books from the library, which I found helpful for guidance on what to expect from DD and on suggestions for what signs to start with. I never purchased a book, though, because it is so easy to find signs on-line. Just good ASL or American Sign Language and the word you are interested in. My first suggestion would be to check out your library. Even if they don't have a book specifically on baby signs, they will probably have some on ASL.
