I was just thinking about a time I went to a general practitioner about really painful BMs and he was totally dismissive of me. Told me to take fiber (I actually eat quite a lot of fiber. If he'd known squat about IBS, he probably would have told me to lay off the raw veggies) If I had known then about the endo, I would have been on the pill to control its spread. Kind of pisses me off.
Why did I have to be the one to put together painful BMs, painful cramps and IBS symptoms around AF=endo? Isn't that what GPs do? ARGH!
Re: Did your endo get misdiagnosed??
In general, I don't think any Dr. wants to touch "Female reproductive stuff" - heck, even my OB/GYN never even gave endo a thought for me. He wanted me to take clomid unmonitored for 3 months and then come back if I wasn't pregnant.
I went to the RE and after reviewing everything he immediately suspected endo.
Started TTC 05.08
Me: Stage II endo, borderline high FSH
DH: perfect
1 lap, 5 IUIs = 4 BFNs and 1 c/p
2 IVFs, 2 FETs = 1 BFN, 1 c/p, 1 ectopic and finally a sticky BFP in May 2011!
1 FET in Aug 2013 = BFP!
I don't trust my GP for anything other than colds, flus, and bronchitis. I have a specialist for everything else.
one time they (GP and the urgent care center) were treating me for a sinus infection for MONTHS with extreemly potent antibiotics (couldn't even drive on them!) so I finally went to an ENT - there was no sinus infection. It turns out I was having a strange migraine/neurological episode. I stopped the antibiotics and started something for my episode and I was feeling perfectly well within a week.
i think doctor's need to stop pushing drugs on people and do thurough diagnostics. oh and actually listen to their patients.

TOTALLY! I have a specialist for everything and for the last 2 years was pretty sick almost constantly. My allergist said I need a good GP to put everything together for me (sinus problems, IBS, IF, getting every bug that goes around.) I laughed and said I'd be glad to if one existed! All I've ever gotten from a GP is a quick Rx for antibiotics. What happened to thorough histories, putting the pieces together, etc? I feel like I've become my own GP.
I use this to my advantage occasionally though. I have so many issues that my GP just trusts me when I say I need something and they write me a script. So instead of going through the trouble of going to a doctor i have my gp call in scripts to my pharmacy (asthma, allergies, other *mantainence* meds). Although, it worries me how easily I can get these meds. It's a good thing I trust my pharmacist. They have a far greater knowledge of meds than doctors do and they let me know when things don't seem right or if they will react badly.

This isn't so much endo related as doctors not knowing what they're doing. When I was seeing just a GP, I was having episodes constantly of peeing blood. Every time I got sick over the course of years and my doctor said it was a bladder infection. One time he actually said to me "maybe you're just weird". I went online and looked up "Hematuria [blood in urine] and sickness" and my kidney disease was at the top of google. If google can put it together with 1 symptom why can't my doctor! I hate how they think they know everying and don't REALLY listen when we have problems.
End vent. Sorry.. I really hate doctors that don't listen!

Yes! Went to an Gyn as a teenager for horrible cramps, pain all the way down to my knees and passing out due to the pain...I was told to suck it up and given pain pills. Ever since I have been managing my monthly cramps with 4 Advil, 3times a day for the worst days of my cramps. I never made a big deal about it to an MD after I was told to manage it with pain meds. I honeslty thought I was a wimp and didn't want to complain.
In our first appointment with RE he looked at my "year of cycles" and asked if I ever had cramps so bad they kept me out of school as a teenager...I was totally blindsighted when he told me (after talking to him for all of 5 mins) that he was 90% sure I had Endo (which I had never heard of).
It really upsets me to know that if I had been diagnosed sooner, my reproductive system wouldn't be as damaged as it is now. I have been talking to all the young ladies in my life (when they complain about cramps), about endo. I feel like we need to put out a public service announcement to teenagers so they won't have IF issues due to a missdiagnosis.

ITA! I would have been on the pill through my 20s if I had known that I was showing classic endo symptoms.
I know!
I'm still not confident in my PCOS or Endo diagnosis.
One doctor says one thing, the other says something else. I'm kinda getting aggravated. If I'm not preggo within this or the next cycle, we are going in for a lap to know for sure.
TOO MANY cooks in my kitchen!

9.10.11-My beautiful Boys arrive unexpectedly at 28 weeks, 6 days.
I went on the pill when I was 15 or 16. I wasn't sexually active. I went on it because my periods were so heavy. Even when I was on the pill I had some random pain with intercourse the last couple years. It was pelvic pain, not external. . . The GYN said to use some lube. I asked if that would help with the internal pain and they said it should. It never did.
When I went off the pill in Sept 2008 my periods and pelvic pain got worse with each cycle. I did my own research on the symptoms of endo and asked my RE about it. She said I didn't have typical endo symptoms because I wasn't on the couch curled up during my period, but with all my other symptoms she said it was likely possible. I made the choice to go forward with the lap as opposed to IUI's cause either way it was oop (my deductible is really high) and I wanted to figure out what the problem was before I wasted money on treatments. It was endo (suprise!) and after 2 months post lap I think its back.
I am "glad" to have a dx. It sucks but at the same time at least there are answers to my many questions, if that makes sense.
Sorry this turned into a novel!
If it makes you feel better, I was on BCP (from 20-30) and I still can't get pg.
