Information on sunscreen

Okay so talking to Dr. Higby - the high risk specialist - yesterday he gave me the following information:

Topical substances are not at issue. He said that all of my possible sunscreens are fine.

Talking to my regular OB today, Dr. Garcia-Hodge, I asked her yet again about sunscreen and she vehemently told me that I should not use anything with any of the stuff mine have in them and ONLY something that has just zinc oxide and NOTHING else. When I explained about what Dr. Higby said she was freaked about his response. However, since he is the one who deals with high risk cases every single day I'm going with his reply.

Also I asked my friend whose father is one of the top OB people in the world (he is who people go to for training in specializations) and she informed me the same thing as Dr. Higby.

Re: Information on sunscreen

  • Yeah - considering your overall experience with your OB and dissatisfaction with her in general, she gets a serious side-eye from me.

  • You can say that again. My hubby is pretty adamant I find someone else to go to. Sophie says whatever *giggle* as she is kicking my pelvis like some major league soccer player!
  • I can see not wanting you to use more chemicals than necessary, but I would think using sunscreen of any type would be better than burning!  I have heard before that topical stuff isn't much of a concern since so little is absorbed.
