(me too - huge!) bump size correlated to baby size, or no? (w/PIPs)

I'm assuming that the size of your bump isn't correlated to baby size - but why is it that bump sizes vary so widely from woman to woman?  i know one girl who has had 3 kids, and for each, you could barely tell she was pg until the very end.  each had a "normal" birthweight, as far as i know.  also, i was looking at the weekly bump pics on my month board, and it varies so much!

i'm not even 20w yet, and all of a sudden, i feel like my tummy's gotten huge.  i've been looking forward to looking pg (as opposed to just looking like i ate too much), but this is a bit ridiculous!

this morning:

but then i decided that angle didn't really do it justice, so i tried again:

and this was 5 days ago (excuse the wet hair in all these photos!):

so...eh?  or do bumps grow at different rates and end up more or less the same before birth?

Wow! You literally just popped (but barely) overnight! But no worries, you don't even look big at all! I don't think bump size is super correlated to baby size. I kept on thinking I'd be bigger after gaining 30lbs *on top* of gaining back the ~15 I initially lost to m/s. But my dr said I hid the baby well b/c my torso was long and b/c I was tall--I think you might be hiding it well too. B ended up being 7.5. I think it really varies!

  • you look so cute! it's amazing what a difference there is in just 5 days huh? i don't think there is any correlation to bump size and baby size...i know they say your 2nd PG your bump gets bigger faster b/c everything's already been stretched out before... if you look at my FB photos i think my bump got pretty big (i still regret not snapping that 40 wk photo right before going to hospital!) and miss A was pretty average at 7lbs4oz
  • Bump size definitely doesn't correlate to baby size. I didn't get big until the end and I was way smaller than all my pregnant coworkers yet they all had 6 pounders and Kaya was 8lbs 4 oz! Your bump is totally cute, btw.

  • you are NOT huge but i know what you mean! your belly has officially popped and it's cute!!

i wonder myself so i don't know the answer to your question Stick out tongue. from what i have observed, it doesn't correlate. my friend had huge bump but only had a 5 lb baby.

  • You're definately popped, I think I popped at about the same time.  It was nice to start getting stranger comments and to stop looking like I just drank to much beer.

    You look great!

  • I don't think they necessarily correlate - I remember Tina saying that the reason she had such a large bump was because she had a lot of amniotic fluid and a big placenta. At any rate, you look fantastic!

It does look like you just popped in the past 5 days! What a cute little belly you have too! I love little belly bumps :)
  • Lookin' good!

I don't know... I think I felt average sized and my baby ended up being average sized. I would imagine other things could affect it, though -- like where you carry weight and how your body adapts to and sustains the pregnancy. My friend was absolutely ginormous and thought she was having a 10 lb baby b/c she was that size at birth, but then he was only 8 pounds when he was born.

  • You're adorable!

My bump was average, I wasn't too big and either was my baby- 6.10. I was opposite of Tina, I had to get induced because of low amniotic fluid. Maybe that's why I wasn't huge?

Yep. My guess is that's why everyone carries different/has different sized bellies. It varies with how much amnio fluid there is, placenta size/placement etc. Maya was 7lbs 12oz and Samara was 8 lbs on the button but everyone swore black and blue I was either having twins or a 10 pounder.

I love proving people wrong haha. Wink
