I would assume you need them when you deliver so you have soemthign to wear home from the hospital/the first few days, but how do you know how large your chest will be when your milk comes in/start breastfeeding?
My pregnancy bras still fit, they just didn't have the snaps to pull down if you wanted to nurse. Regular tanks could be pulled down as well. I didn't buy any nursing tanks and I think I bought a couple nursing bras 2 weeks postpartum.
I went ahead and bought a couple of nursing tanks while pregnant as they're sized S/M/L/XL. I bought my pre-pregnancy size and they were/are fine. I waited until I was around 2w PP before buying any nursing bras.
TTC#1 since Mar 2008. Serious MFI due to cancer.
3 cancelled IUI's, just about every test in the book.
IVF#1 - BFP! Twin girls arrived 2/5/10 at 35w2d.
I bought nursing tanks ahead of time, a size bigger than my pre-pregnancy size. I basically just wore those for the first 2 weeks, just like previous post says. Then I went on the great bra hunt. It's too unpredictable what your boobs will do right after delivery to settle on a size.
I bought a Bravado nursing bra during my last trimester and it does not fit now that my milk came in. I would just suggest some nursing tanks & sleep bras.
