Potty Training

3 Day PTed-damp spots

My son isn't the greatest about telling me he has to go, so I occasionally find damp spots on his underwear still.  Definitely not worthy of being called an accident, like the size of a dime.  I try to embrace what the author says and not consider them set backs, it's just him learning to control it.

So anyway, if you were me, would you change his underwear every time this happens?  I was, then last night he had one that was seriously not even dime sized.  I debated, and DH laughed.  He said he has damp spots all the time, like dribbles as he pulls his boxers up.  And come to think of it, I've noticed that happening with my older son too.  Really, the spot will probably be dry in the next 20 minutes....

This happened to DS and what worked for us was when it happened we just said the feeling you have right now means you have to go potty- lets go.  We always changed them right away.  Then it occured to us that although we explained that pee/poop go in the potty we never really explained that underwear must be dry so we started doing that.  And we'd check is underwear and praise him for having dry underwear (DH would also show him his dry underwear).  If he did have a spot we'd say that's gross your underwear isn't dry lets change them.  It stopped shortly after that.  Also, not sure if your LO is night trained or not.  We didn't do night training because he was 17 months when PT and every thing we read said he's too young for that.  Well we just decided that being in a diaper at nighttime was confusing so we just stopped and did underwear and he night trained at 18 months (around the same time the spots stopped as well- so that may have helped too).
