TTC after 35

I'm already sick of the progesterone

I realize I'm being whiny about this esp b/c I'm only on like day 3 of taking it but YUCK.  It's kind of gross and I'm guessing I need to start a small savings account for the eventual purchase of all new panties.  I also can't get the stupid foil packet open and keep breaking the tablet in half and then I had a meltdown about using a new applicator twice a day and was everything recyclable...then I talked myself down and decided my garbage men did not need to deal with that in my recycle bin each week!

  • awww...jcath...I feel your pain about the progesterone!  And yes, definitely invest in new panties...that was the one thing I HAD to do.

This may be TMI...but I never used an applicator; I just shoved the darn pill as far as I could using my finger.   Embarrassed

Wait...did you say you have to break it in half?  Maybe I'm thinking of a different pill.  Mine were sort of yellow and gel-like.  Definitely couldn't break those in half.   hhmmmm....

  • So sorry Sad doesn't sound pleasant at all.

But on the flip side, you could be taking oral progesterone like me and feel drunk while at work!  I have to take it twice a day.  It's worse for me at night (perhaps the cup of coffee I drink in the morning counteracts it's drunken feeling abilities).  I have stumbled and bumped walls in the evening because of oral progesterone.

  • I start my first round of Clomid tomorrow and then my first round of progesterone (suppository) the day after I ovulate.  I'm not looking forward to that part.  Tongue Tied  HOWEVER, I'm curious why new panties are needed?  Don't panty liners work?  How bad will this stuff be???  Dear God.

Random question, I'm new to this board stuff and can't figure out how to make a ticker at the bottom of my posts.  How can I enter in all my info, like how long I've been trying and what I've done so far, etc., in addition to the cute tickers.  Thanks very much.  Smile

  • I can't imagine taking the suppositories. I'm sure garage men see worse things than the applicator for a suppositories. No worries.

I took progesterone but orally. They made me a little high which, I'm not going to lie, I enjoyed.

Panty liners do work to an extent....I didn't understand exactly how much junk would be coming back out!   eeww!

To make a ticker or enter your info you'll need to click on My Account near the top of the page; then click on Customize Profile; then click on Edit Profile and scroll down to the Signature area...this is where you can type text and/or cut and paste the code from Ticker Factory (or FF) to enter a ticker.

  • Thank you!!!

I will go try this out.

  • maybe ask your RE for a different type of suppository? I was on progesterone supps. during my first pregnancy and on them with my 2nd IVF (which wound up not working). both times I used a suppository that was a plastic applicator that was prefilled with the medicine, it was like a white gel inside. All I had to do was snap off the plastic top and squeeze it inside. was very easy to do and not messy. sometimes i did have clumps come out after the fact, but it was usually only when i went to the bathroom. i didn't ruin any panties with them either.

No I'm not supposed to break it in half but while wrestling with the foil packing they come in I keep accidently breaking them - mine are chalky not gel- like.

I had no idea about the oral progesterone making you feel drunk  - I guess I'll be happy with my suppostories - I can't tell that I'm having much in the way of side effects.

The panty liner is a definite must but...it's just alot of stuff that comes back out.

  • i feel your pain as well, hate progesterone!! Endometrin sucks and Crinone sucks!! ?And the side effects...argh :) hang in there!!
  • Hmmm I did not have this problem. I had a pill filled in a normal prescription bottle and it was to be used as a vaginal suppositorie. TMI but if I could shove it far enough (no applicator), very little if any came out and it was when i went to the bathroom. Panty liners were fine. I would ask for the Prometrium if possible. My insurance covered it so it was less expensive too. Good luck

  • The ones I got were suspended in wax...they look like white bullets. No applicator either.

They are messy cause of the waxy build up. It's my understanding that they can be taken rectally (is that a word?) and that reduces the mess. I've yet to try that route so to speak.

    Hang in there!

TTC since July 2007 a year on our own, 7 IUIs spread out over 2 years, all BFN IVF attempt #1 - September - antagonist protocol, called off CD8 due too poor response IVF attempt #2 - November - called off on CD11 due to low estrogen IVF attempt #3 - started stims Jan 25th...converted/cancelled Jan 31st...SWITCHED BACK TO IVF Feb 3rd! ER Feb 7th...lets DO this! ET Feb 12th, Beta #1 141, Beta #2 356, u/s #1 hb 141 bpm, u/s at 7 weeks 1 day no hb, missed m/c. So sad. IVF #4 scheduled for June 2011, last chance, this is it
  • I can totally relate to this!  I have taken prog. in the 2WW for my last 3 IUI's and will begin again next week too.  I am not, however, taking a pill form.  I take Crinone which comes in something similar to an eyedropper, so you just twist off the end, insert and squeeze.........so much easier than those stinkin' pills!  That being said, I still deal with a minor amount of "leakage".....so I've taken to wearing liners on the days I use it.

    Hang in there!
