Will possibly be joining you... high BP

I don't have any answers yet, so I thought I might ask for opinions.

For a week or so, i've been having dizzy spells and a few headaches, nothing too serious.  I decided to check my blood pressure while I was at my mother's because I was feeling a little funny.  BP was 178/105! My mom then took it manually (she's a respiratory therapist) and it was the same.  I laid down and it went back down in about 30 minutes.  Luckily, I had a Dr appt the next day.  At that appointment, BP was 140/65.  Still high.  Doctor talked to me about gestational hypertension and pre-e. He ordered blood work and a 24 hour urine.  Last night, I checked my BP with an automated machine.  195/106.  I called the on call dr and he told me to get to the hospital.  At the hospital, it was 150/something, but steadily went back down. They sent me home with no answers, except that my blood work came back fine.  I have an ultrasound scheduled for Friday.

Anyone go through this constantly fluctuating BP? Thanks in advance!

My BP will stay about 140/88 if I rest and am on modified bedrest  but can go up to 180/90 if I go to the store or do too much.  They're in the process of finding out if I have pre e right now.  My 1st 24 urine was 50 pt from pre e but I messed up the second (didn't do it the full 24 hrs because I filled the jug after about 17 hrs.) and am right now doing the 3rd.  I would keep an eye on it because with my first DD all my blood work looked fine until I went into hypertensive crisis 1wk after having her and was dx with pp pre.

My BP has ranged from 120/70 to 140/90 in the last 24 hours.  It goes up and down.  As a result, my doctor put me in the hospital yesterday to monitor me.  However, I also was +3 for protein in my urine and had pre-e in my last pregnancy.  Without those factors- if it was just the blood pressure- he would have put me on regular bed rest.

The fact your BP goes down when you lie down is a good sign.  You're probably doing too much and need to lie down more.

MY OB and the hypertension specialists at the hospital said it's normal for your BP to fluctuate throughout the day- that's why they are taking my BP every 4 hours (even at 1am and 5am).  Watching the pattern over a week or so will give them a better idea of what is happening with my body.  They told me if I go above 140/90, they will put me on blood pressure medication but if I flucuate enough where is is mostly below that level, I can avoid the meds.  So I will be in the hospital resting for the next 2 weeks until I have the baby.

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.

Having unstable BP means that it is likely that it may go up and stay up.  I would keep monitoring it at home, and rest/lie down as much as you can.  I would also call and speak to your regular doctor.  My doctor gave me some BP numbers as guidelines.  I had one number where I was supposed to monitor at home and call if it was still high, and another number where I was supposed to go to the hospital.  You probably need similar instructions.  The actual numbers may be different than mine as I have chronic hypertension.

Also, I would bring up the issue of medication with your doctor.  I started getting similar BPs at 23 weeks with my first pregnancy.  I was put on medication and made it to 34 weeks.

Thanks for the info and advice! I am going to my regular doctor tomorrow, so I'll discuss it with him then!
