is your lo watching fireworks?

i'm on the fence about this. it'll be past his bedtime and i worry if he will be scared of them. what are your plans for the 4th?

Re: is your lo watching fireworks?

  • Nope they definitely go to bed before dark & would have no idea what it was. Maybe next year. I'm not sure about getting scared- thunder doesnt seem to faze them at least...

  • I don't think so - she goes to bed at 9 which is when they usually start in my town.  Also, she is scared of loud noises so I think she would cry.  We will probably do a BBQ during the day with LO and then put her to bed and watch the fireworks from our house with just DH and I.

  • Yes, we are going to the park to watch fireworks tonight.

ETA: DS doesn't usually go to bed until 10 anyway and the park is about a 5 min walk from our house.

  • I am going to skip the big downtown fireworks show this year. Too many people and too much noise. Plus the traffic is killer.

We are going to go to DH's church. They have a 4th of July party. DH plays the music for the 6o'clock mass then we will probably hang out and watch the fireworks from there. It is close enough to get a good view but far enough away to avoid all the stuff I mentioned.

  • nope, they will be sleeping.

i dont think mine would appreciate fireworks.  I dont think they would be scared, just not interested, tired, and crabby.

  • I'm kind of on the fence about it too. Our town is having them on Saturday night, which is the same day as DD's birthday party. I'm thinking no, since I'm sure she will be exhausted from her party, and she usually goes to bed way before dark (at like 7:30).

The good thing is that we could see the fireworks from our house last year, so DH and I can watch them without leaving the house!

Next year we will take DD though!

  • We're going but sitting way off in the distance.  She likes the lights but hates the "boom."  She's flexible w/ her schedule, so just one night won't kill us.

We watched a huge fireworks show while we were at Disney World and she really liked it. Regardless of whether I want her to or not, fireworks will be going off all night long so she's going to hear them. She's a heavy sleeper so hopefully they won't wake her.
  • If we stay in the city, yes, we will be taking LO to the park (half block away) to watch the fireworks.  She goes to bed anywhere between 9-10 anyway.  She does good with thunder and I would like to introduce her to the pretty lights :).  If she doesn't like the booms then we will go home.
  • Nope- no even my 2.5 year old.  Way past bedtimes and my poor DS is very skittish of anything louder than the cat's meow.

  • nope.  that is waaaay after ds's bed time and i think the loud booms would scare him.

  • I plan to let DS watch fireworks, however I do worry about his little ears.
  • Yep, our church is having a Canada Day barbecue on Sunday and we will take DS. There will be fireworks at the end and he will watch them. I really want to try getting some good fireworks photos.

  • No, they are way too late and she would be a crabby monster, not to mention she really wouldn't know what's going on anyways.

  • I really am torn as well. My lo goes to bed about 8:30. We have stayed up for other events and she was fine. Just slept in longer to make up for the time lost. But she is scared of the most random things! Like the vacuum and my kitchen aid mixer. So IDK I guess we will play it by ear and see how it goes.

  • LO goes to bed by 7:30-8 PM so she will not be able to hang and i am not sure if they will scare the crap out of her....might not though but too late for us!

have fun if you go!!  love fireworks!

  • Not this year.  DS goes to bed at 7:30pm and he has meltdowns when he is up past his bedtime.  Also, he is really easily startled and scared by loud noises, so I know that I would have a screaming, crying, overtired baby on my hands.

We are going to attempt it. It's only about a 7 minute drive from our house though. If she becomes a Princess Grumpy McCrankypants then we'll just go right home.

I know she'll love it though if she isn't too tired. She doesn't really get scared and she's constantly wanting to see new things. Guess I'm going to have a pretty adventurous little girl on my hands.

  • Maybe. We took DS to a soccer game when he was 9 months and he did great. He didn't care too much for the fireworks. I just don't know if I feel like it. I don't get much sleep lately.

  • Our daughter usually goes to sleep by 9pm but she may stay up. If she does then she will be watching the fireworks from my parents' home.
  • We saw fireworks the other night when we were staying at a hotel for our anniversary (indoor fireworks and outside tee hee)....we took our LO outside to watch them and she was whoa what is this when they started and I did notice she had her hands over her ears because it was loud....so don't sit too close....I covered her ears a bit as well to help but next time I'll make sure I am further out but she sat in my lap and stared at them with her mouth open wide in awe and surprise...i have to wonder what was she thinking?!
  • Skip. It's too late and too loud for him this year. I thought about taking him down to the bay where we can see them over the city, but there's always a lot of idiots down there who set off their own fireworks right overhead and I think it would freak him out. Maybe next year.
