Potty Training

Bad night with 3 day Pted boy....

I'm guessing this is bound to happen once in awhile?  We've been stacking the deck in our favor, and taking him to go potty at 3am and 5am.  Worked for us, and was helping him stay dry.  2 nights ago I slept through the 5am one, and he was still fine.  We figured he was starting to get it without needing the help.

Last night he came out of his room at 2:30 telling us he needed the potty and was soaked.  Ug.  Cleaned him up, got him back to bed, and obviously skipped the 3am wakeup.  5 came, and I slept through my alarm, but got up at 5:30.  He was damp again...not soaked this time, but enough to need to change his pillowcase again (he sleeps on his pillow-strange child).

I guess the 5:30 one was kind of my fault.  But then again, I "shouldn't" need to get him up.

I just get so frustrated with setbacks.  He also had one small accident (not just a damp spot, most of his fly was wet) yesterday.  I think he was just distracted playing with the boy I babysit, but I get so letdown when these things happen.  His accidents have been few and far between since day 3.

  • Sorry to hear that :( You must be exhausted getting up every night to bring him to the potty, too. I've felt the same way about DD and stacking the deck; she was so easy to train that I just keep crossing my fingers it stays that way. Your little guy is several months younger than her, so maybe it'll just take him a little longer. GL! He's doing great, really :)

  • Your DS is doing much better than my DD. She had 3 good days and then decided she didn't want to do it at all! She is very strong willed so we are backing off for a while. She will still use the potty a big. Have you been stopping liquids early enough in the evening? This is going to be the most unpopular answer but maybe for bedtime you need to put him in sleep underwear (pull ups) for a while until he can wake up dry. Then transition him to regular undies when that starts to happen. I had read many sources that night time training just takes longer I know that isn't what the 3 Day PT book teaches though. Good Luck!
