Babies: 9 - 12 Months

need help with new sleep issues

For the past few days/nights, DD will not go to sleep for anything. It takes us 1 - 2 hours to get her to sleep. She used to go to sleep in 15 minutes at night, but not anymore. She falls asleep while we're rocking her, but as soon as we put her in the crib she starts screaming.

She doesn't have any signs of teething (no drooling, white bumps, etc.), and nothing else has changed. Is there anything else it could be, or anything we can do about it (other than CIO or rapid extinction)?

Also, we have tried every scenario as far as putting her to sleep when she's under tired, overtired or just right tired. Nothing changes. We also tried putting her down drowsy to teach her to fall asleep in the crib, but she screams even more when we do that.

TIA!

Re: need help with new sleep issues

  • We had the same issues, and after 4 weeks of it, we ended up doing Ferber (despite vowing that we never would). So I'm not much help, sorry!
  • We suddenly started havin the same issue.  As soon as he could stand in the crib.  Nap was nonexistent today.  We have resorted to one arm swaddle so he can't stand up.  Works great!  Don't know what else to do yet.

  • We were having similar issues and talked to our pedi and he suggested a modified Ferber method.  It was hard, but has worked wonders.
  • This might be totally unrelated, but my pedi said that one sign of ear infections is if a baby screams when she is lying down...maybe call your pedi and ask if that could be the case?

We've been having similar problems.  What was the modified Ferber method you used?
