I am a bit concerned about the amount of weight I've gained, at just under 12 weeks. From reading what's "suggested" I'm getting worried- b/c I certainly have put on more than ZERO to a couple pounds. I'm at about 7+lbs gain currently. My question is- what was everyones wt gain 1st tri- and those of you that gained on the "higher end", like myself, did you average out by the end or did you also have overall higher end weight gains?
Re: 1st Trimester Wt Gain
You're going to gain what your body determines it needs to gain to maintain the pregnancy. If you were underweight before you may see an initial larger weight gain and you'll make up the rest through out the pregnancy. If you were overweight, you may only gain a little weight throughout the whole pregnancy.
I was one that was probably at what my body deemed a perfect weight because I gained exactly how the books said. I put on 3 in the first tri, and about 10 in the 2nd tri, and 5 in the 3rd tri...it probably was a bit more one tri then the other but I only gained 18lbs and was totally expecting to gain more then that.
Don't be bummed out or worried, or stressed because you're bodies doing what it needs to do to grow a healthy baby...
The only thing I would caution is that if you've gone hog wild on big mac's, and french fries now that you're "eating for 2", stop, because its a recipe for disaster!
I was so seriously bloated... as you may be, that those 7 lbs may be a lot of water!
Talk to your OB. They're the best gauge of your height/weight/health.
Im 5 3 and about 123. I haven't gained anything BUT I have heard what the other posters have said; your body sometimes does what it needs to do. Like if you are underweight, you're technically supposed to gain a little more. I don't think it is anything to worry about-plus, if you are bloated, etc. that may have some effect.
I would say that unless your doctor brings it up as an issue, there is nothing for you to worry about. We will all get there eventually - I know everyone is different but I've had friends that gained very little and in the 3rd tri -blew up!
First pregnancy I gained around 10 in first tri as well....ended up gaining 50 the whole pregnancy so I'm trying not to do that again. This time around I gained 4 first tri, but by 24 weeks right now I've put on 17. So I'm up quite a bit too. I'm not too worried, it does come off, and your body puts on what it needs to.
Just try to eat healthy (though my DQ is way too close to my house), and I'm still trying to exercie 3-4 times a week if you can.
I completely understand. I am now 25 weeks and when I went to my OB last week I had gained 20# total. Before that I was on track with my weight gain. I have been eating healthy but my doctor said I'm eating too much of something. However, I'm trying to not let it worry me. I figure if I'm eating healthy then I'm taking care of the baby. I've started to eat smaller meals more often rather than the 3 big meals plus snacks.
We'll see....good luck!!!
