Results - and we know the sex!

So we received our preliminary results from the CVS today...and everything looks good! They still have the full tests to run through, which we should get next week, and of course we'll be monitored for other things/ heart issues /placenta issue etc, but so far so good. I do have a rather large fibroid and a bladder infection, but at least the baby is ok.And we're having a boy!Even after all this, I'm glad we did the scan and the tests - I still would rather know in advance, plus it may catch a heart problem that needs to be fixed immediately...

Re: Results - and we know the sex!

  • Congrats on good results and a tentative boy!  How accurate is the CVS test in determining sex?
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • CVS is 100% accurate in determining sex since they look at the chromosomes and they come back XX or XY.
  • Congrats on a healthy baby boy!!!!!

If im right the test results are %100

Congrats on the boy!  How exciting!

Izz-CVS and amnio are pretty definitive on determining the sex.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't sure what the CVS was.  I knew they could check the fetus' chromosomes with amnio, but didn't know about the CVS.

  • I believe it 100% for the sex - the CVS specifically looks at the chromosomes and even more specifically the last pair (the ones that determine the sex) to see if it's Turner Syndrome (which can only hap penes with girls - they only have the last chromosome from the mother and not one from the dad).

  • Congrats on the baby boy!

Just out of curiousity, does everyone have a CVS test done? Or is it only under certain circumstances?

  • Congrats!  It must be such a relief to know that everything is OK.

Out of curiosity, why did you get a CVS?

Typically if you have this test if A) your over 35 (I was given the option as I am 35) or B) if you have any family health history that would give concern.

  • Thanks everyone - we're really excited (and surprised - everyone SWORE we would have the girl in the family...we have 5 other baby boys on my side!)

I had the CVS test done because of an abnormal NT scan and blood work - my risk was 1 in 7 as opposed to 1:200 or whatever it was supposed to be...

So now, even though these came back ok, we'll be monitored for heart defects and placenta problems (and again, although extrememly scary, I am glad to know in advance and glad that we can be on the lookout for any other problems...)
