I have been lurking here for a while. I post on BOTB so I am not a newb to the bump.
My diagnosis: TTC for 18 cycles(plus unprotected sex since Nov '07), 1 m/c. Perfect sperm for DH, I have a blocked right tube from scar tissue.
I currently see my OB who has done my HSG, Lap, LEEP and DH's SA. I was hoping that I could stay with him as I am in an area with not a lot of specialists.
But I think it is time to move on to an RE but the closest one to me is 5 hours away. I am expecting a 6-7 hour drive to see an RE, we would also be OOP for everything.
What would you do? I know I just gave you a brief history and you don't know me but I am having a bit of a meltdown and I need some advice.
TIA
Re: I am coming out of lurking with a question
Awww (((hugs)))
I remember you from my BOTB days... Personally I would move to an RE, it reallu sucks that they are so far away...
Wow, that drive would be insane. There have be several occasions to where I have been seen multiple times in a week during treatment. I know personally I would not be able to do all that driving and take the time off work to do the appts..
My RE is almost an hour away from my house and the drive kills me.
Good luck!
That's the problem I would have to pay all of this OOP plus travel expenses and take time off work. I am part time too so I don't get paid for sick time or vacation time.
I am so torn

I am so sorry that you have to worry about this on top of all the IF stuff. Maybe the RE could work with you to maximize your visits. It is probably worth your time to make a first appt. and tell them your situation.
If your Ob is interested in infertility treatment they might do the monitoring for a medicated cycle while all the decisions and prescriptions are done by your RE. Or there might be a satellite clinic closer.
My RE told me stories of how some clinics got started and only if doing injectibles they would require women to stay in for a week or two.
At least it would be worth to have a consultation, and maybe you can have all initial b/w done ready before that.
TTC since 1/2008
Hopefully you can work out something like this. I'm sorry you have to deal with the long distance issue along with already dealing with the stress of IF. Welcome to the board. Come out of lurking more often.
Love & luck to my 3TC girls. Congrats to Omega-The boys are here!
If there's one thing I've learned while waiting my turn,
it's that in each life some rain falls but you also get some sun.
After 2 years & 2 losses, our little man arrived 8-2011.
Thank you all for your responses. I really appreciate the advice and wisdom. You all are so nice
I will come out of lurking. Watch out! lol

I agree with this. When looking for an RE, you might even explain your situation. I don't have the commute issue, but do have a hard time getting off work. We scheduled my first RE appointment so that I got CD3 b/w, u/s, AFC and SHG all on the same day. That knocked out a lot of testing. Since then I had repeat b/w (which you may be able to have done somewhere closer to you with results sent to your RE) and a repeat AFC.
I really hope you can work something out. That would be a nightmare to make that trip regularly. Best of luck to you!

This. I live over an hour away from my RE and my OB. I have gotten clearance to get my b/w done where I work (at a hospital) so I don't have to miss a 1/2 day just for a 5 min. appt.
