Photog Annoyance

We had our newborn pics taken by one of my mom's patients.  She wasn't great but I am glad we have the pics.  I feel bad that  my mom paid for the sitting fee - which was $100ish.

Anyway, she sent us hard copies of the proofs, so we could go through them and then decide which ones we want her to edit.  I sent her the ones I liked 2 months ago.  She sent me an email asking me to resend my faves about a month ago.  Then on Saturday I got an email saying that she would work on them this weekend.  And this morning I just got an email that says that she's been having computer issues and won't be working on them until later this week.

So, if I don't like the edits - I am assuming I won't since the proofs pretty much sucked.  My mom apologized for hiring her, they were that bad - I don't have to feel bad about not ordering any pics, right?

Re: Photog Annoyance

  • She sent you hard copies? As in prints of all the photos? ...and wants you to choose which ones to edit? That's interesting.

How bad are we talking? Like just some bad posing or are they out of focus/blurry and bad exposure? If she doesn't have a minimum order that you have to meet and you just don't like them, then I don't see why you should have to put an order in. Unless you just want them for the memory :)

  • If she doesn't have a minimum order clause in her contract (and it sounds like she didn't even draw up a contract for you) then you aren't obligated to order anything. If you don't like them, don't buy them. that's too bad you got a shitty photog. :(

Yep, 4x6 prints of 150ish photos that she got printed from Costco.

The posing isn't too bad.  I don't love any of the poses.  They are mostly family photos and I look huge in them.  I was 9 days PP.  It is not cute.  They are all in focus but the coloring is off.  We all look kind of yellow.  She swears that she can fix it in photoshop.  Admittedly, I suck at photoshop but I am not sure the amount of bad/unnaturally coloring can be fixed.

    And there's no min order.

  • The yellow is just a white balance issue. Personally, I would have at least fixed that before ever showing a client! but that's just me...

She did nothing to them.  She may have cropped a couple but as far as editing goes - nothing.

Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised with the edits.  Who knows

Ditto. Sounds just like a white balance issue, which can be fixed -- Hopefully she shot in RAW.

Did she get any of just the baby? I know I definitely wouldn't want to order a pic of me 9 days PP! Hoping you'll be pleasantly surprised :)

  • She did get some of just the baby.  She got a lot of Timm with the baby and lots of our hands on the baby, which in general, I am not a fan of.  My fave pic that she took was of the dogs while she was testing the light. Oy.
  • It seems odd she sent you hard copy proofs. As someone who has been having major photog problems since my wedding over a year ago, I would not feel bad AT ALL about not ordering pictures that you don't like.

I hope you're pleasantly surprised and get some good photos after the edits.  Keep us posted!
