Is the sibling class for new baby worth it?

The hospital offers a sibling class for kids starting at age 3.  It's only $10 but would it be worth it for my almost 3 yo (she would go to the class like the week after she turns 3 or so)?  DS would go as well and I think he would be fine but if he goes she will want to go.  So, waste of money??

Re: Is the sibling class for new baby worth it?

  • It was my favorite part of my mom being pregnant. I got to make a little shirt for my sister and it was the first thing she wore. It taught me how to swaddle and that babies are little and you have to be gentle. It had a lot of good info in kid terms. I remember almost the whole class. I was a little older though. My little cousin took it at around 3 when his sister was born and talked about it for months. I say go for it.

  • My DS went (my DD ended up being a month early and was born the day before the class) when he was 2, but was for kids 3 and under. I don't know if the class made a difference or not, but he seemed to have fun. They showed the kids the nursery, they held a doll, drew pictures of their baby, etc. For $10 I'd do it, esp since she's excited about it.
  • I just signed up DD for one that's 3 weeks before my due date.  She's 3 years old.  I like that she'd get a chance to see the hospital, delivery room, nursery ahead of time and hear about new babies.  If events are stressful when I go into labor, at least the environment won't be totally unfamiliar and scary!!   Plus, I think we'll have a great time.  Our class is $10 too.
  • I thought it was worth it. They taught DD how she can help mommy and daddy with the new baby, how to hold him, help give him a bath, change his clothes...all that stuff. They even did a mini hospital tour for the kids as well.

  • We are doing it but I don't know if it is worth it! Ours is 30.00! So for 10 who cares if it is a waste of money...right?
