Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

question for my sil

she miscarried at 5 weeks. she has seen her doctor and it looks like it was just one of those things.  she is fine now.  he recommended waiting to try again until september.  i have heard of waiting that long if the pregnancy was further along, but it the wait really necessary?

I'm not a doctor, but unless there was some unusual circumstance, I don't see why she'd have to wait until September.  One cycle should be enough.

    this.....

i had a m/c in between DD and my current pregnancy and my OB told me i could TTC right away and i got KTFU right away!  :)

  • I waited one and then tried again.  My dr suggested I wait 3 months but that was more for emotional reasons than medical I think.
  • Are you sure you have the whole story?  Why would a doctor make a recommendation like that if there's no good reason for it?  Your SIL should ask her doctor why he recommends that she wait.

That's really only 2 months (she wouldn't try in July or August), so not so long, anyway.

yup...i know the whole story.  as a matter of fact, i was talking to my brother and they came to ME asking me why they would have to wait.  we went through IF issues and ended up doing IVF, so they know i know a lot about this stuff, unfortunately).  they didn't question the doctor...they should have.

  • I had a cousin that miscarried around 6 weeks.  Her doctor advised her to have at least 1 normal cycle after the miscarriage before trying again.  I think it was more for accurate dating of a potential pregnancy than for an actual health reason.

Yes, I had a missed m/c at 8w and dr said I should wait till I got AF but nothing bad would happen if I didn't.

Over on the PL board, there are a lot of women whose drs tell them to wait for 2, 3, or more cycles because of "emotional reasons".  So patronizing.  If she feels like trying again she should go for it.
