Babies: 3 - 6 Months

4 month wakeful or teething?

DD had been sleeping for 6-10 hours straight at night since she was 8 weeks old but for the past week she's been up every 2-3 hours!! It's like having a newborn again.

She's been shoving everything in her mouth and chewing on anything she can so I'm thinking she may be teething but she is going to be 4 months this week so could this be the 4 month wakeful?

Has anyone gone through teething and the 4 month wakeful at the same time?

In addition to eating 2 times during the night (which she hasn't done since 5 weeks old), she's fussing just about every hour on the hour and someone has to go in and hold her and rub her back before she will calm down.

Re: 4 month wakeful or teething?

  • I just posted something similar to you.  My DD has been sleeping through the night since 3 months old and now she's waking up 3-4 times a night this week.  I feel your pain!!  It's so hard to go from STTN to waking up all the time, like when they were newborns.  I'm sorry, I don't have any great advice, just want you to know I understand what you're going through.  Good luck hun!

  • DD has been doing the exact same thing. Teething starts at around 4 months, the same time as the 4 month wakeful. I personally believe they are the same thing. I know some people won't agree with that. No advice, I'm right here with you going through the same thing right now!

  • I went through this will LO but it wasn't so bad. After a week or so she stopped waking up through the night but it was still a fight to get her down because as soon as I would walk away from her crib her head popped up again looking for me. After she did this a couple times i laid her in our bed and she would sleep the rest of the night. She moved back to her crib 2 weeks ago and is sleeping through the night like she started at 3 months. As far as the teeth she drooled A LOT and chews EVERYTHING (since about 3 months) but no teeth yet.
  • Thanks everyone! Glad to know I'm not alone in this! I was sorta thinking maybe the teething and 4 month wakeful are the same... or at least play a part in each other. I'm hoping it will pass soon and I get my "happy, sttn baby" back.
