Do you always answer the phone?

DH will drop everything he's doing to answer the phone. I just don't get that. I mean, sometimes I don't feel like talking, or it's the middle of dinner, or I's changing a dirty diaper, whatever. DH treats the phone like it's sort of emergency.

DH - you have caller ID and voice mail. You will know who called and can call them back. You don't have to answer the phone from the toilet.

THIS. I try to answer the phone, but sometimes I just don't feel like dropping and running. And even MORE often, am not in a state or wanting to chit chat.

  • Nope, I prob let it ring more than I pick it up!  lol  Somehow, it always rings when I am in the middle of something, so I just let it go.
  • If it is sitting next to me and I am not busy, then yes. But I hate talking on the phone and usually avoid it at all costs. :)

I hate it when DH answers the phone during dinner or when we are busy.  He rarely ever doesn't answer it if he hears it ring.

  • I don't even flinch when the phone rings.  Our phone will ring only 3 times before vm picks up so unless I'm sitting right there, I don't run for it.

I am a total call screener.  We have voice caller ID, so when the phone rings, it announces who the call is from.  It is great b/c I don't even have to get up off the couch! :-) Depending on what I am doing at the time, I might answer, but usually let it go to voicemail.

  • No one we know personally calls our house line. We never answer the phone. In fact, we've had all but one of the ringers turned allll the way down for about 2 years now, so we don't even hear the phone ring unless we're in the back room.
  • I only answer if I know who it is.....  if I don't recognize the number they can leave a message and I'd call them back.

oh, and I don't drop anything to run to the phone....it's usually on low and I don't hear it anyway.

  • No.  My mom does though and she thinks it is rude that I don't.  I think it is rude that she does (like when she has company).
  • I almost always answer the phone. I do not when it's an 800 number on the caller ID. We have so many relatives with a foot in the grave that we never know if it will be an emergency.

  • I very rarely do, and rarely even look at it.  I will get up to look if I've left a msg for someone to call back, but if it's not that person, I don't answer.  Anyone important will call our cell phones, especially in an emergency.

  • I rarely answer the phone once i get home. My dh will look at the caller id first but if it is his mom or brother, yes he drops what he is doing and talks.  And they talk like girls, at least 1 hour each time.

  • I always answer the phone when it will "let" me.  It has been tempermental lately...sometimes it just won't work when I press on.  It's about 10 years old...time for a new one.  Our land line doesn't ring very often and because we put a "do not call" for telemarketers it is usually family that calls.  My brother, nieces, etc. never call unless it is to let me know someone is in the hospital or died.  Terrible I know...but it has always been that way.  I've always been long distance from my family and before the days of cell phones they just didn't call.  It used to be a standard joke that my mom never ever ever called unless someone had died...seriously.  Then my brother called...yep - my mom had had a stroke!!  I usually answer my cell phone if I hear it as well.

My adult DD and DS rarely answer their cell phones.  If I text I get a resonse...but sometimes I'm in the car and it is illegal (or will be July 1st) to text wihle driving.  Plus I wear glasses for reading and I hate getting them out.  I told my DD that some day someone is going to try calling her to tell her I'm dying or something and she won't even find out until the funeral arrangements are made!!  It irritates me to no end.

  • We don't have a land line, but I'd say I answer my cell about 10% of the time.

And I don't listen to my VM either, and it says so on the message.

My parents, on the other hand, answer their phones all the time.  Even just to say "I can't talk right now".  I'm like, why answer the phone then?
