Parenting after 35

Cross you fingers for me..

We're taking a 600 mile car trip tomorrow. It will be the longest Caroline has ever been in the car. We're leaving at 4:00 AM in hopes that she and DSS will sleep for a good portion of the beginning of the trip. Additionally, this trip comes a day after DSS will have been in a car for 8 hours (not thrilled with the planning on that one..grrr).

I am super excited about the vacation though. We're going to my parents house in TN (where I grew up) and my sister and her family will be there too.She has a 8.5 month old daughter that I have never met. They live on the other side of the country and I was 30 weeks pregnant when she was born. I can't wait to get the little cousins together.

  • aw that sounds like it's gonna be SUCH fun (the actual vacation, not nec the car ride).

I'm sure the car ride will be OK though. Just stop if you need to and pack lots of toys to distract her with in case.

I ADORE your siggy pic btw!! :)

  • awww, have a great time and stop about every 2-3hours and let her stretch out and crawl/walk around.  It worked wonders for us when we go on long car rides for my DH's races.  You also might want to invest in a cheap DVD player too if you don't already have one, pop in a few DVD's to keep her occupied for a while.  On normal car rides, I don't let LO watch the DVD's, but on long car rides, it does help pass the time.

BTW - what part of TN are you visiting? My DH's family is originally from Lebanon & Watertown.  We have land there and hope to build a house & move there after my DH retires in a few years.

  • Yay for vacation!  Sounds like fun!  Good luck on the car rides, and I second the DVD idea, but I will add get earphones for your DSS.  I highly doubt he and your DD will want to watch the same thing.

Oh, I should have added that. He is 10. He is quite handy for entertaining baby in the backseat.

We have the laptop with two charged batteries for movie watching and DSS has his little Nintendo game thingy. We rented a minivan for the trip so I'll be able to sit in back by the baby some.
