Postpartum Depression

If you used Lexapro and weaned off, plz come in...

I started 10 mg in June 09.  I went to 5 mg since about February 10.

I want off.  Just because I don't think it's good to be on it.  I am def over any PPD.

I went to my OB for my annual exam a couple fo weeks ago and she asked if I was still on it.  I said yes, but that I had halved the dosage.  She then said to wean off of it altogether.

So I did.  COLD Turkey.

it's been over a week and I'm still feeling one effect.  I get a tingly/dizzy feeling in my face and neck that lasts a few seconds.  It happens about 5-6 times a day.  I know it's the withdrawal because anytime I ever forgot to take it, I would get the same feeling.  And as soon as I took a pill, I was fine.

When will this go away?  I don't want to get back on, even on a small dose because I figure I've aleady been off it for about 10 days and I should be close to the end of these symptoms.

Did anyone one else go cold turkey?  Did anyone else have this tingly feeling?  How much longer can I expect the withdrawal feelings?

 Thanks!

  • I didn't go cold turkey - I had luck doing half dosage for week or so, then taking one every other day for about a week.

  • It's going to take a few weeks for it to go away.  Cold turkey is about the worst thing you can do, technically speaking.  Withdrawals from anti-depression meds(as explained to me by my psych) is like withdrawals from the harsher drugs.  You don't want to do that to your body.  I did do it when I found out I was pregnant.  I will never do that again.  I was on 4 different meds at the time.

Anyway, it does last for a few weeks until it's all out of your system.  You figure they say that it takes a month for it to fully work into your system, it's probably going to take that long for it to fully work out of it as well.
