S/O Table Foods: Question

Ok, DS is changing so fast it's starting to scare me.  For a while, we've been giving him little bits and pieces of table food from our plates when we eat.  He gets Stage 2 baby food 3 times a day, but whenever we try Stage 3, he spits it out.  I don't think he likes the texture.  He'll gobble up any table foods we give him (and I mean anything).

Well, yesterday, he did not finish a single bottle, except for the 3 oz. bottle we give him right before bed.  WDYT we should do?  His bottles have been at 6 oz. for a while now, and before yesterday, he got so excited at just the sight of the bottle that we had to hide them when it wasn't time to eat.  Should we cut back on the amount in the bottles and just start giving him more baby food and/or table food?  Or should we wait until his August check-up to ask the pedi and just continue doing what we're doing?

I know their formula/BM intake will increase as they get older and as they start to eat more solid food. With my older two, I would do bottles/food about an hour or two apart, which usually did the trick. Their fluid intake seemed to peak around 6 months and then tapered off a bit as they got older.

Is he taking the bottle, but just not finishing it? As long as he's getting in at least a few ounces from each bottle, I would keep doing what you're doing now and double check with the pedi next tine you go.

  • How many ounces total is he taking?  I think I read somewhere that babies can decrease their milk/formula intake down to 16 oz once they are eating lots of solids.  And btw, DD is really not a fan of purees, but she loves table food, so she eats that for most meals.  This doesn't surprise me; after all, wouldn't we rather eat table food than baby food?  I don't think an older infant's palate is much different than an adult's, personally.  DD still gets cereal and fruit for breakfast, but for lunch and dinner she'll eat scrambled eggs, goat cheese, bits of ham, broccoli, and whatever we're eating that she's not allergic to.

With DD, I watch her cues, and when she started taking less goat milk consistently, I adjusted her bottles.  She will still leave bottles unfinished, though.  She usually drinks between 20 and 24 oz a day, but yesterday she wasn't interested in her table food dinner and had 27 oz total instead.  So it varies.
