I was wondering how your big dog does with you LO.
DH and I have a 4 yr old great pyrenees named Shelby. She is about 130 pounds. Everyone was afraid of how Shebly would be with a baby but she is GREAT! She barely pays any attention to her. She will "sniff" her if she is crying or check on her. She is really good with kids so I don't worry about when LO is walking and crawling. I also don't worry about her taking food from LO as she gets older because Shelby doesn't get people food and never has. She won't even eat something that you dropped on the floor.
Re: Big Dog Owners...
Jake is a black lab and last weighed in at 110lbs, Bella is a chocolate lab and last weighed in at 60lbs.
They do so amazing with DD. They'll gently sniff her and sometimes lick her hand. Whens he cries they always make sure that DH or I is with her. They have been so fantastic with her. We couldn't have asked for two better furbabies.
We have two 50 lb rescue mutts (one is a Plott Hound-mix and the other is a Basenji/Pit Bull mix) and they really have taken to DS well.
They get very concerned and check on him if he starts crying, they lick his hands, feet, and head very gently a few times a day, and greet him before they greet us when we get home from running errands (they stick both their heads in the carseat at the same time and sniff him).
They are both males and, while I was expecting them to be interested in DS, I never thought they would be so "paternal" I guess you could say. They won't even touch his toys, including the ones with squeakers and such in them! I've really been amazed at how easy the transition was for them.
We have a German Shepherd who is really great with Alexandra. He sniffs and kisses on her and licks her little toes and hands. Funny: he is always Very Concerned whenever she sneezes. IDK what it is about the sound but she goes achoo and he comes charging in from the other room like "IS SHE OK???"
So cute! We have a GSD and a rottie/GSD mix. They both love the baby, especially his toes!
we have a 70lb shephard mix and a 100lb malamute and both do great with LO. the malamute is pretty vocal but LO doesnt seem to mind.
