Parenting after 35

had to call the Pedi

...and I feel kind of dumb about it but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

So S has always been a dream baby and I'm the first to admit it: she's an absolute dream come true! She's been in DC since she was barely 2 months old and they all love her to pieces and she them. Well I guess the past couple of weeks she's been "fussier than normal" and they're telling me "because she normally doesn't fuss much."

The only fever she's had in her life was after her 2 months shots. Not even now does she have a fever.

Well I guess today she puked white curdles about 45 mins after she had a bottle. And several hours later she had a really loose movement and lately they've been much more solid - and I've attributed that to eating solids.

So I call the doctor and leave him a message and tell him that I think she's fine because she is - she's smiley, happy, goofy, fun loving, sometimes fussy (be still my beating heart that a baby be fussy!), baby doll- but that DC is wanting me to call because she's been more fussy.

And now I wait for the call back.

I seriously feel SO dumb right now.

Re: had to call the Pedi

  • No need to feel dumb!  It's better to make the call and be reassured it's just teeth or something than to not make the call and not know!

  • I agree with Amy.  While it's probably just teething or something minor that caused the curdled vomit and loose stools, it's better to be safe than sorry.

    I'm sure she's fine.

  • Yeah you guys are totally right. I neglected to mention that I cried during my drive home thinking about the What if's. : (  Still haven't heard back from the doctor. I really do hope it's nothing...

  • More than likely just a little "tummy trouble," but it's perfectly fine to call the pedi.  That's why they're in business, right??!!  The pedi works for you, not the other way around.

  • He finally called and commented that it sounds like DC's more concerned than me. God did that make me feel like a heal. He thinks she's just fighting stuff and to keep an eye out and call again if she gets a fever or has more diarrhea and/or vomiting.

But we didn't touch on the fussing and now I think I'm seeing what DC was talking about- one minute happy as can be, next minute fussy. : (

  • Priya went through this almost exactly about two weeks ago.  Dr said to watch for dehydration, and if it got worse to bring her in.  It only lasted about a day and a half.

  • I'm glad it doesn't sound like something major, but I'm glad you listened to DC's concerns, even if you felt you were pestering the MD (and I agree with pp, the pedis work for us so don't feel bad).
  • Our little guy is doing a lot of the same things right now.  He's definitely fussy, and I am not used to that either.  I am making a list of questions for our 6 month appointment, if I can make it that long!  Hang in there!

  • I would have called, too. Don't feel silly! I hope she feels better soon :)
  • I hope all is well. C is more fussy now at daycare than she was in the beginning so now they call me every time she cries for more than 5 minutes.

I can also tell you that teething turns even the happiest baby into a fussy mess.
