Q for mamas who do eat-play-sleep OR who have stopped nursing to sleep

Noah put himself on an awesome eat-play-sleep schedule pretty early (it was very exact- every 3 hours around 2-3 months and since 6-7 months or so he naps everyday from 12-noon then from 3-5). During the day, I nurse him everytime he wakes up- 8am, noon, 5pm but at night, I always nurse him to sleep. This was never my intention (I think it just started as wanting to send him to bed with a full belly but then became a habit) and I really want to stop for many reasons.

So, question #1: If you don't nurse your LO to sleep, what does your night routine look like?

Right now, we do bath, jammies, book, nurse. Would it work for me to rearrange it to nurse, bath, jammies, book? I don't think he'll have a problem actually going to sleep, as he puts himself down for his two naps everyday and sometimes after nursing he's still awake, but I'm still nervous about changing things on him! Question #2: Does that seem like a good plan? Do you have another suggestion?

Thanks, y'all!

  • Really? No one? I'd even take suggestions, not just experiences!

I'm looking for the same answers :). At Pedi appointment she recommended bath, nurse, book, sleep. I still don't know how to do that though since I currently nurse last and then hold, rock her till she falls asleep. ::sigh:: She recommended laying her in her crib and holding her hand/rubbing her back etc to soothe but I know that is going to be a nightmare for us. We have tried that before and it was a total fail. Do you do anything special to help your LO go to sleep after nursing or just put him in the crib?

I just lay him down, give him a paci and turn on his seahorse- but then again, he's used to going to sleep like that during the day.

My problem is he usually falls asleep nursing so I don't know what to do!

  • LOL! I wasn't ignoring you I just logged on:) I nursed DD for all her naps and bed but I wanted her to not nurse to sleep anymore, so this is our routine: Bath, jammies, nurse (with lights on) daddy reads book to her then I sit back in the rocker and rock her. I had to rocker her sleep at first then I rocked till sleepy (still do). I would do just like you stated above the only thing I would do is do the same thing you do when you nurse him just not nurse. I always rocked DD in our dark room while nursing her, so now I still rock in the dark room (with a nite lite on) just not nurse her. He may put up at fight at first and if so I would nurse him just maybe not as long or just till he's sleepy. Do that, don't offer unless he demands and just shorten the lenghth every night. GL!
