trim diaper to go over shorts?

I just bought a lot of these outfits at carters since they actually fit him (hes a weird size right now) and i tried them on with a FB OS and a BG bamboo fitted and they were really bulky.  those are the only two that i have.

I know with CD there will be bulk but the amount of bulk was a lot.

Is there a trimmer diaper I could try that would fit better under small shorts?

I have 0-3 shorts but they literally hang on him even with a CD.  hes got a little waist and chunky thighs.
